Free Music Review: True Rock n Roll
Hit: 5 Stars

When there are only a handful of true rock n roll bands out there today, it's nice to know that the Black Crowes stay true to their roots. On Lions, the Crowes turn in a hard rocking album that could be a tribute to late 60's and early 70's rock. The opening track, "Midnight From the Inside Out" sounds like it could have easily been a track from Led Zepelin. "Lickin" is a fast-paced trippy song that takes on a new sound for the band. On "Greasy Grass River" the brothers Robinson borrow extensively from the sounds of Hendrix. The beautifully crafted "Soul Singing" is the highlight of the album with an amazing guitar part. All in all it's a great effort from the Crowes.

Free Music Review: for FANS, this is absolutely five stars...
Hit: 5 Stars

I love music that has soul. Lions is filled with soul. I never really thought of the Black Crowes as a "fun" band, but there is a good measure of "fun" on this album. I'm not a "serious music fan", so don't expect too much nit-picking here. Mostly my sum-up would be: Big riffs, Funk, the best of the 70's, Sgt. Pepperish psychedelic ear candy, great guitar tones(!), lots of great lyrics. A touch of Cream on track 7.

Fans are going to be pleased unless they want a rehash of the old stuff. Hell, even if they want a rehash, it's possible they'll be delighted. *special warning* If you are the kind of person who has to disagree to feel good: you wont like it.

Free Music Review: Lions Rips and Roars!
Hit: 5 Stars

After listening to the new CD for 2 weeks (probably 15 times), it has grown on me each time. I love all the Crowe's CD's. From roadhouse rock (SYMM) to Southern Jam (SHAMC) to Psychadelic Rock (amorica) to Psych/Folk Rock (3SA1C) to Commercial Rock Pop (BYS) to finally a blending of all five (LIONS). To me, the weakest track is "Young Man, Old Man" BUT that could change in time. Other than that, this is a great Black Crowes album. This ranks up to #1 or #2 against their other albums. Simply buy it, and decide on your own.

Free Music Review: Wow!!!
Hit: 5 Stars

It's really hard to say where this album ranks against their other releases. It's different, it's unique, and I absolutely love it. The Black Crowes are one of the few bands left who still play REAL rock and roll. No synthesizers..., just good, old-fashioned, blues-based rock and roll. Particularly noteworthy tracks on this CD include "Midnight From The Inside Out", "Soul Singin'", and the trippy and thunderous "Cosmic Friend"(a definite 420 experience). So load up the CD player, kick back, and listen (smoke 'em if ya got 'em).

Lions is an album that stands alone in a world of teenie bop music. At times very funky and other times very jagged. Every song on this album is very strong. One of the most diverse albums I've heard in a long time. My personal favorites on this album are Ozone Mama (funkish), Soul Singin (soulish)', Cypress Tree, Greasy Grass River, and Cosmic Friend (very Beatles-esque. Start to finnish an incredible album that should be in all Crowe's fan's collection, or even just Rock n Roll fans in general. A MUST buy!
