Free Music Notes for The Lost Crowes (The Black Crowes: The Band Sessions)

Free Music Review: Awesome.
Hit: 5 Stars

It's funny, but nuances make such a difference. I was a sophomore in college when AMORICA came out and I loved it. As time has gone by, it's slipped into my less-than-favorites. So it's interesting that after knowing the songs so well, that I'd be more impressed by the "original" versions. I far prefer "Tall" to "Amorica" and my only whiny regret with this excellent set is the exclusion of "Exit," "Title Song" and "Fear Years." Not only are the specific recordings more interesting (with "new" and better choruses on "Evil Eye" and "Descending"), the whole album has a great feel to it..... if "Amorica" was the LSD album, this is more of a hashish record, if that makes any sense.

"Band" has always been one of my favorite albums and it's great that "Roadside," "Grinnin," "Lifevest," and "Never Forget This Song" finally see sunlight. This is one of the Crowes' best albums, in my opinion, and while I love a great number of songs from "By Your Side," the vibe is much better on "Band."

Essentially, if none of the other reviews made you pick this up, here's another review suggesting you do so. This is The Black Crowes at their best.

Free Music Review: Amazing Crowes
Hit: 5 Stars

Its been a while since I've been compelled to review anything but these discs have blown me away from the moment I put them on. Always have been a big fan and have been gradually disappointed with everything from 3 Snakes on.

BOTH of these CDs rock. The Band disc is simply an amazing album that holds up to their greatest work. Another Roadside is one of the best rock songs I've heard in months. Why this didn't come out instead of the mediocre By The Way is totally beyond my comprehension.

I went in thinking "why do I need another Amorica" because I already love that album. But the different takes on the album are great... a bit softer and smoother. And the unreleased gems buried in the middle are simply great rock songs.

Lets hope the brothers Robinson can recreate some of this magic with their new album in the works!

Free Music Review: Must have for Crowes fans
Hit: 5 Stars

This is a must have for any true Crowes fan. The "Tall" disc is good just to finally hear what it sounds like after knowing all these years the story around it. I don't really think any of these versions are better than the Amorica versions but it's cool to hear the seeds of it. However, "Feathers" and "Thunderstorm 6:54" are great and must haves. The "Band" disc is classic Crowes. "Paint an 8", "Wyoming & Me", "My Heart is Killing Me", "Another Roadside Tragedy" are all awesome. Like I said, if you are a deep Crowes fan get it. If you just like the Crowes in passing still get it ... you'll probably like the "Band" disc.

Free Music Review: Get these albums!
Hit: 5 Stars

I have to say I was blown away at the quality of the tunes that make up both of these albums. They both are chock full of Allman Bros-esque guitar work and jams. I am amazed at how open and rich the tunes are - in fact, in many ways I like the versions of the Amorica tunes better here for the outright honest renditions (less-produced), and I can't believe that the 2nd album, "Band" was never released as a real album.

If you would like to hear the Crowes in raw, unbridled format, definitely get these albums. They are a true surprise and I can't recommend enough.

Free Music Review: Wow!
Hit: 5 Stars

I'm a huge Crowes fan, but I honestly wasn't too excited about this newest release. Boy, was I wrong. This CD is awesome! I thought that hearing different versions of songs already released would be pretty dull, but I was dead wrong there. The alternate versions of songs like Descending, Conspiracy and Ballad In Urgency (called Lowdown on this CD) are beautiful! The unreleaed songs are fantastic as well. This is the next best thing to a new Crowes album, and I highly reccomend it for any Crowes fan or any fan of Rock n' Roll in general.
