Free Music Review: True Blues! Awesome!

I think perhaps this is my favourite Black Keys album so far (hard choice!) (see review of Attack & Release, The Big Come Up and Magic Potion). I would have given it 10 stars! This album totally blew me away. Real authentic, old time blues - but better. Much better. Almost makes me want to cry, so beautiful is it. The Black Keys playing these numbers of Junior Kimbrough - indescribable. It's a shame Junior died before they could get together. I bet they would have had some awesome jamming sessions! This album is definitely addictive. I just can't get enough of it. From the first number to the last. Stunning, stunning. Meet me in the City - ohmy! The boys have it down to a fine art. The world is richer by having such excellent music being produced. I know it enriches my soul. I have only one complaint: the album is not long enough! Only 6 songs! You are just getting interested then it's finished. So you play it until it's worn through. Make sure you get a few copies! I CAN ONLY HOPE THEY WILL MAKE MORE ALBUMS OF THIS NATURE! With many more songs of Junior Kimbrough! They have proved they are up to this music! This style suits them. And they even have the blessing of Mildred, Junior's widow. The Blues has always been the backbone of good, long lasting music. You just can't beat the blues. The blues forefathers would be proud. The Blues certainly has stood the test of time. SO GO BOYS, MORE OF THIS PLEASE!

For their latest, Akron, Ohio duo The Black Keys have brought forth an EP of six songs by Junior Kimbrough. This is no mere dalliance; the late elder Mississippi blues musician was a powerful influence on guitarist Dan Auerbach and drummer Patrick Carney. Their three previous albums, full of dusty grooves and simple but impassioned dynamics, would have found strong rapport with Kimbrough, who unfortunately died before they could ever meet. However, his widow, Mildred gives her passionate endorsement for these performances in the form of a short phone message that appears at the end of the disc. Among the highpoints is "Meet Me in the City," which positively shimmers as the plaintive vocal soars over a virato-ed guitar.
