What a cool name, DIO. It actually means God in italian. Dio also invented the devil horn hand sign that most hard rock and metal fans use.
Well this CD is awesome. It is filled with doom and gloom metal by none other than BLACK SABBATH. That is right, but no more Ozzy. This is Dio screaching dramatically over demolishing and ear splitting metal riffs.
Dio era Black Sabbath features out of this world lyrics about the end of the world, voodoo, magical children of the sea, the devil, mystical crosses, shadows, and gothic themes that would elicit any true METAL fan's interest.
This is highly recommended and please expect CLASSIC METAL. Do NOT expect the likes of System of a Down or Hatebreed. This is true classic metal at its baddest.

Just to start off,I am a big fan of Dio,as a solo artist.More familiar with Ozzman as the leader of Sabbath,but do like Dio's stuff with Sabbath. Don't have any Sabbath with Dio,besides this album,I just purchased.But that will change,now. Pretty much,only familiar with "Neon Knights","Heaven & Hell,"The Mob Rules","Falling Off The Edge Of The World" & "Children of The Sea".But after listening to the new and old tracks,I never heard,am a new,big fan of Dio's Sabbath days. "Ear In The Wall" is my fave new song.The other's are cool.So,if you are a Sabbath,Dio,Rainbow(w/ Dio,of course) fan,I would suggest picking this one up.I am a fan of slow stuff and fast,so it pleases me."Mob rules",will probably start my collection of Dio's Sabbath stuff.D I O Music Review: It's about time
Hit: 5 Stars To me Ozzy era Sabbath was the greatest band EVER ! Dio era Sabbath was (and currently as Heaven And Hell) is an awesome band . This compilation is great "greatest hits" of the Dio years. The Dio Sabbath albums were all very good . Heaven and Hell , Mob Rules and the very under rated Dehumanizer are all first rate classic metal . This Rhino cd , "The Dio Years" does a great job of representing those 3 albums . The only bad choice of songs on this cd (in my opinion) is the Live Evil version of Children Of The Sea. I think they should have put the studio version on here instead. There was no need to represent Live Evil , yes it was a decent album , but the studio version is much much stronger. The 3 new songs are all classic Dio era Sabbath songs . Get this cd !

I will start out by saying in my mind you should buy all the Dio era Sabbath albums but this "Greatest Hits" album is a good set of their songs and it has 3 new songs. I love the Ozzy era Sabbath but the Dio era is what was going on when I first got into Black Sabbath and in my mind all 3 of the studio albums they made together are excellent. We could argue over which songs should be on here but who cares? All of these songs are great. Ronnie and Tony together is magic. I also like all 3 of the new songs and think "The Devil Cried" fits in with some of their other classics. I might catch some flack but I feel like the Dio version of Sabbath is one of the greatest metal bands of all time right their with Priest, Maiden, and the original Sabbath.Free Music Review: The Dio Years, not something that should be overlooked!

The Mob rules, Lady Evil and TV crimes are just some of the many diamonds that shine and sparkle from the Dio years. Always in the shadow of Ozzy, particularly when Ozzy Osbourne's solo career got off to a great start, Dio was never quite able to establish himself as the "next great singer" of Black Sabbath, but regardless of people's feelings of loyalty towards Oz, Ronnie James Dio still has to be recognized for his own style and signature voice during his tenure with Black Sabbath. I am glad that this CD has been released and have been enjoying it a lot since purchasing it. The quality is top notch and this really is, in my mind a great collection of the best Dio material that comes from the Black Sabbath sessions.
