Free Music Review: Truly stunning!!
Hit: 5 Stars

A few weeks ago, I heard Blackmore Night's version of "The Times, They are a-Changing'" on Tampa's wonderful, listener-supported community radio station. I was absolutely floored by the song and had to hear more of that startlingly beautiful voice. The fact that I love medieval and Renaissance music and had not heard of these folks also surprised me. Further research found that they have been big in Japan and middle Europe. Whatever. . . I immediatly bough this disk as well as "Shadow of the Moon" and have listened to nothing else since. Both the vocals and instrumentals are knock-outs!!

And, as a listener of Deep Purple and Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow in the 60's and 70's, I was both surprised and pleased to hear what Ritchie is up to now. I consider it a fantastic career move and hope he stays with it forever!!

Free Music Review: Rock guitar with therenaissance, baroque, classical elements
Hit: 5 Stars

Many people loved him during his period with Deep Purple and Rainbow. Ritchie Blackmore is an awesome personality, his music, his lyric and his musically charismatic conquered the heart of the rock fans in the 70's and 80's. And now He joins Ms. Candice Night on this pretty medieval album. The result is a huge fascination...the trip to the old medieval time/renaissance era. Miss Night is a very sweet girl and has a good voice. The songs like crowning of the king, possums last dance, times they are a changing etc....reminding us on the classical 16th Baroque century. The musical composition on this cd were helped by some german classical experts, Ritchie has known in the good old Deutschland. Ritchie Blackmore is always my favourite guitar player of all time. See ya on your next tour Ritchie!

Free Music Review: maybe the best yet
Hit: 5 Stars

I'm not a purist and don't seek out all the errors that people seem to want to use with this band e.g., not enough use of traditional arrangements, etc. I don't think they (BN) will ever claim to be a traditional rennaisance outfit. Seems to me to be much more about having a good time playing music that would be enjoyable in a concert hall or around a campfire. This album seems to wander more than the first two cd's. While some seem to be bothered by this, I think it is great. With the exception of maybe two songs on the entire cd, I enjoyed every one of them. I would strongly recommend this cd to anyone who likes this band or to anyone with an interest in pop/folk/minstrel/rock music. No pretense here...just good music and fun.

Free Music Review: Blackmore's Night Matures a Little Here
Hit: 5 Stars

Since Ritchie Blackmore is one of my guitar heroes, I listen to all of the music he produces. Coming to Blackmore's Night from a solid rock background, I was surprised at how much I love this style of music. The songs are a bit longer here than are found on Shadow of the Moon. I belive that this allows for a greater depth and complexity, both in the music and the lyrics. Case in point is "Written in the Stars" and "Fires at Midnight." They also dabble in Japanese-style music, as heard on "Benzai-Ten" with somewhat success. "Mid Winter's Night" is a particularly beautiful song, especially since Candice sings half of the song in Provencal. Overall, an excellent cd.

I've Allways been a big fan of Ritchie Blackmore. When Deep Purple crashed I was disappointed. When Rainbow died, I was also disappointed. When I learned that he was doing some kind of old-style music I didn't pay much attntion because I wasn't interested in 'old-style'. However, over the last few years I realized that I didn't care a whole lot for any of the music I was hearing. So in a state of boredom, I ordered this CD. I'm glad I did!! It is refreshingly different, and the guitar-work is the best i've ever heard from Ritchie, mostly classical, but heavy at times. And Candice Night has a pleasent, soothing style. I highly recommend this CD to anyone looking for something 'NEW'
