Free Music Notes for Ghost of a Rose (Spec)Free Music Review: Sitting stunned in my room Hit: 5 Stars
I've been sitting here all morning listening to this album, knowing that I need to write a review for it, but having difficulty doing so. The reason for this as I have narrowed it down; is because I am not only speachless, but dumbfounded. This is an amazing album. In my first listening, I was not so sure that this album matched up to their previous ones. As I started to become dissilusioned with the album, I sat back from what I was doing, and just listened; and that is what made the difference. As of the time I am typing this review, I have had it in my cd player going on six hours now. If anyone who reads this is contemplating purchasing this album, I do suggest that you purchase 'Fires at Midnight' before listening to this album. I feel that this will promote a greater appreciation of the musical development. Far be it for me to say that one should not get this album, but if you get the other ones first, you will appreciate this one so much more. So to sum it up, Blackmore's Night has done it yet again. Let the music live on.
Free Music Review: Brilliance Continued... Hit: 5 Stars
*Ghost Of A Rose* is easily the best work Ritchie Blackmore has done post-Deep Purple. He's finally plugged back in semi permanently for this album, which only furthers my belief that he is THE most under-rated guitar player of all time.Tremendous production only serves to highlight the excellent musicianship throughout..including Candice Night's vocals, which are excellent and are a perfect match for Ritchie's flowing acoustic landscapes. Did I mention that Blackmore has fired up his Strat again? Do you long for those spine-tingling, hair-raising solos that Ritchie is famous for? Check out the tracks *Rainbow Blues* and *All For One*...and tell me they don't put a huge smile on your face :) Let there be no mistake, *Ghost Of A Rose* is the Man In Black's return to rocking...oh yes, there are still elements of Renaissance music, but more than not...it SMOKES! Thank You Ritchie and Candice! Reviewed by Dan Elsenrath August 26, 2003
Free Music Review: Blackmore's Night Rock Hit: 5 Stars
The new cd "Ghost of a Rose" is in my mind the best cd yet from this medieval/folk/rock band. As usual several covers, Joan Baez's "Diamonds and Rust" and Jethro Tull's "Rainbow Blues" are included and very well adapted.Rainbow Blues for one is a suprise,as it really rocks. Where previously the mood was pretty mellow, this album rocks much more with more electric guitar playing by Ritchie Blackmore. Candice Night's vocals have also matured and all in all this is their best offering as yet.The traditional medieval folky idiom is still there but they have seemed to matured more and the sound moves close to prog-rock territory. The arrangements are also much tighter with the rhythm and harmony sections enhanced by extra vocal and instrumental lines. As I have had the German import for quite a while I cannot vouch for the video footage, but that should be great aswell. Truly a great buy.
Free Music Review: Ghost Of A Rose - Another Enchanting Chapter !!!! Hit: 5 Stars
I can only hope that this wonderful group of musicians keep it going. GOAR is truly a delight to the ears. All the medieval, classical, pop, renaissance & rock ingredients of the previous BN releases are here JUST BETTER. So very well produced and written. Fabulous textures and melody lines. Ritchie is truly at his best and Candy's vocals are just glorious. Her voice seems to have matured greatly on this CD. Not that it lacked on the previous releases, but she has really come into her own now. There is no restraint in her voice anymore. She is totally one with the music. This is especially evident on Diamonds And Rust. She is singing with so much more passion now as compared with the Shadow Of The Moon CD. Each successive effort seems to bring more and more out of her. It is truly a pleasure to listen to her. The harmony overlays are purely angelic. This CD is, of course, a must for any BN fan. Fabulous !!
Free Music Review: The Amazing Blackmore Machine Hit: 5 Stars
Every time I buy a new Blackmore's Night CD, I keep on saying that this is the best one and that there is no way they can do a better one. Candice, Ritchie and their Band Minstrels prove me wrong one more time! THIS is the best Blackmore's Night CD. I am a Rithie Blackmore fan of over 30 years so I am certainly biased but Ritchie is absolutely at his best and Candice is as always enchanting...I can't get "Way to Mandalay" out of my head! The music of Blackmore's Night is actually a very logical development and the culmination of Ritchie's career...up to now...who knows what will come next. Whatever it turns out to be, it will be first rate, majestic, done with great taste and elegance. What is really amazing is that I am fighting with my 11 and 8 year old daughters for the CD. I would recommend Blackmore's Night unconditionally to any age group from 7 to 77!
