Free Music Notes for Past Times With Good Company

Free Music Review: Medieval & Mystical
Hit: 4 Stars

When I picked this up, I currently had Ritchie's "Stranger In Us All" and thought this would be along the same lines, which is hard-rocking if you haven't heard it, but it was very different...in a good way. Being a big fan of old Rainbow music, I always loved the medieval overtones they incorporated. This band plays Celtic/Renaissance (not sure how else to describe it) style music with period and modern instruments. A mix of acoustic & electric guitars, violins, flutes, drums, electric bass, mandolin, and a slew of other interesting instruments. The singer, a female, is best described as Stevie Nicks-ish and has a great voice and plays various instruments. This mixture really works; the music is lively and I'm constantly singing along. 16th Centrury Greensleeves is a great rendition of the Rainbow classic and Candice (the very pretty and very young singer & fiancee/wife of Ritchie) sounds very alive when gurgling out "Crossbows" on the tune. Being a live album, there's an air of magic about it and the crowd certainly sounds entertained. Highly recommended for those with an open mind.
Highlights:
16th Century Greensleeves
Morning Star
Home Again (perhaps my favorite tune on here)
Renaissance Faire
Writing On The Wall
Fires At Midnight
Under A Violet Moon

Free Music Review: BLACKMORES NIGHT LIVE, GOOD STUFF.
Hit: 4 Stars

I HAVE BEEN LISTENING TO BLACKMORE,S NIGHT SINCE THEIR FIRST ALBUM AND THE ONLY WORD THAT COMES TO MIND IS MAGICAL. i HAVE ALWAYS LOVED BLACKMORES ELECTRIC WORK WITH PURPLE, RAINBOW, ETC.BUT I HAVE TO SAY THIS NEW MUSIC IS JUST OUTSTANDING, THE LIVE ALBUM SOUNDS GREAT, RITCHIE DID A GREAT JOB PRODUCING IT. THE ONLY REASON I GAVE IT FOUR STARS WAS FOR THE SONG SELECTION , WOULD HAVE LIKE TO HEAR MORE MATERIAL FROM FIRES AT MIDNIGHT, WHICH I THINKS IS THEIR BEST WORK. HIGHLIGHT FROM THIS ALBUM INCLUDE A BRILIANT RENDITION OF THE RAINBOW CLASSIC SIXTEENTH CENTURY GREENSLEVES, CANDICE,S VOCALS REALLY SHINE , REMINDS ME OF A YOUNG STEVIE NICKS, BUT WITH A SWEETER VOICE.
ALSO ENJOYED THE OLD PURPLE SONG SOLDIERS OF FORTUNE , TRULY ENCHANTING. THE ALBUM BENEFITS FROM THE LIVE CROWD AND CANDICES VOCAL ARE AMAZING AS WELL, WOULD HAVE LIKED TO HEAR MORE ELECTRIC SOLOS FROM BLACKMORE AS THEY ALWAYS SEND SHIVERS UP MIND SPINE, TRULY A MASTER OF THE INSTRUMENT, BLACKMORE LEAVES NO ROOM FOR DOUBT ON THIS ALBUMS OF HIS TOTAL MASTERY OF ALMOST ALL STYLES OF GUITAR PLAYING. FOR A NEW LISTENER I WOULD RECOMMEND BUYING THE STUDIO ALBUMS FIRST, BUT AFTER THOSE I PROBABLY WONT HAVE TO SAY ANYTHING TO PERSUADE THE LISTENER TO GET THIS LIVE ALBUM.

Free Music Review: Blackmore Escapes
Hit: 4 Stars

I remember well Ritchie, Ronnie & Rainbow. I chuckle still at some of it, but never the guitar work. It was during that time that Blackmore began fusing classical-style elements to his solos and songs, giving rise to a new style of rock which had it's emulators in Yngwie Malmsteen and groups like TNT. But good artists don't get caught in the trap of self-imitation and it is not surprising to see Blackmore's music evolving again with Night. Each release by Night sees him doing what he does best, and that's writing and playing his renaissance fusion accompanied by some good sidemen(& women). It does not, regardless of what some might suggest, see him delving headlong into treatments of traditional material. Not to say that a guitarist of Ritchie's ilk can't play outside his comfort zone, but if one wanted to hear traditional material there is the Chieftains and the like. If one wanted classical guitar there is Segovia. Some refer to this as "Night Unplugged," but I think it sounds great. It's Ritchie in the zone. I especially love the way they picked up the Rainbow tune, 16th Century Greensleeves and reworked it with remarkable effect. Who says Night's voice has no "spark?" This is a great collection, buy it and have fun.

Free Music Review: blackmore is a forever guitar player!
Hit: 4 Stars

Many people loved him during his period with Deep Purple and Rainbow. Ritchie Blackmore is an awesome personality, his music, his lyric and his musically charismatic conquered the heart of the rock fans in the 70's and 80's. And now He joins Ms. Candice Night on this pretty medieval album. The result is a huge fascination...the trip to the old medieval time/renaissance era. Miss Night is a very sweet girl and has a good voice. The songs like crowning of the king, possums last dance, times they are a changing etc....reminding us on the classical 16th Baroque century. The musical composition on this cd were helped by some german classical experts, Ritchie has known in the good old Deutschland. Ritchie Blackmore is always my favourite guitar player of all time. Free Music Review: Excellent Fayre...
Hit: 4 Stars

I'm afraid I can't agree with Captain Jax, when he says Blackmore's Night lack the spark on stage of a realy talented band, I assume he hasn't seen the Castles And Dreams DVD..however, onto this album, my one criticism is that "The Clock Ticks On" is not it..otherwise it's a very good representation of how BN sound live.Everyone plays well Candice is in fine voice and they sound as though they are having a great time, I've been a fan of Ritchie since Deep Purple In Rock, and I think he has paid his dues to the rock world. Carry on Ritchie. This is great music.
