Free Music Notes for Secret VoyageFree Music Review: Great album, but where's the bonus video? Hit: 4 Stars
I purchased this CD as a gift and the receiver was very happy with it except for one thing: the bonus music video of the song "Village Lanterne" was nowhere to be found on the disc! After attempting to find it by playing the album in both a computer and a DVD player, the video still would not appear. This was most frustrating and confusing as the back cover of the album clearly lists the video after the musical tracks. I think what may have happened is that the bonus video only came with the Secret Voyage Limited Edition Digipak album and the regular album does not have the video but it's listing was mistakenly left on the regular album back cover. That is why I give the CD four stars rather than five; other than the mysterious video issue, this album is a real musical treasure. ^_^
Free Music Review: Excellent addition to Blackmore's Night's repertoire Hit: 4 Stars
I was a little apprehensive about this CD before it came out. Only twelve songs, and one of those an Elvis cover, only one instrumental. Had Blackmore's Night finally jumped the shark?
No, they haven't. Forget the Elvis cover and you have an excellent addition to their catalog. There are actually two instrumentals, counting the opening track. The guitar work throughout is top drawer, Candice is in excellent voice, there is a varied mix of fast, slow, sad, and party songs, and the quality throughout is excellent. The CD is an instant classic.
Free Music Review: Muy bueno Hit: 4 Stars
Sigue en la línea de sus anteriores trabajos y se agradece. El nivel es de un notable alto, aunque, para mí, sobra alguna de las versiones (pelín excesivo fondo electrónico).
Me alegro de haberlo comprado.
Lo recomiendo
Free Music Review: A bit disappointed Hit: 3 Stars
I am a very big Ritchie Blackmore's fan (and I'll always be). I love Deep Purple and certainly Rainbow too. And when I first listened to Blackmore's Night, I loved it too. Obviously, I bought all of their records, from "Shadow of the Moon" to this one, "Secret Voyage"; and I have noticed that every new album from BN has taken a descending road in my personal expectations as a very big fan. I think that BN is repeating itself again and again; like someone said before, there are no surprises. Yes, it's still a nice album, but not great. It seems like BN played all of its cards and the stock is close to a sold out. Don't get me wrong, here there are very good songs, but I guess that the formula is getting repetitive. In addition, I don't like too much "Rainbow Eyes" (a cover from Rainbow), I guess that the original version (with RJ Dio on vocals) is unbeatable. And I don't like Elvis Presley's "Can't Help Falling in Love", I think it doesn't fits with BN's baroque style. Maybe it's time for Ritchie to try a comeback with Rainbow or something. But we all know that Candice has put a spell on him!
Free Music Review: Be Warned! Hit: 3 Stars
I have loved Blackmore's Night ever since I first heard them a few years ago. Candice has an amazing voice, Ritchie is a musical genius and combined with the rest of the ensemble they have a great band. And this latest release is another notch on their belt with a great album.
But if you like to have CD's then rip them to your MP3 player, be warned! It plays flawlessly on a CD player, but it is all scratchy on a computer. Any computer that this has been on sounds like an old overplayed LP. I thought importing it would clean it up, maybe bad playback or some such. Nope, the MP3 is poor quality too. Is this some new version of DRM? The only places I can listen to this now is on my stereo or my car. Not while mowing the lawn, working out, walking, anything portable is out of the question.
Sad, really sad.
