Free Music Notes for Shadow of the MoonFree Music Review: A Good Place to Start Your Blackmore's Night Collection Hit: 5 Stars
This was my first Blackmore's Night cd and I truly enjoyed it from beginning to end. I love several of the songs, such as "Shadow of the Moon," "Play Minstrel Play," "Ocean Gypsy," (a remake, I believe) and "Mond Tanz." The rest of the songs I like a lot, with the exception of "Spirit of the Sea" and "Greensleeves"; the latter is especially not well done, which is unusual for a musician of Blackmore's standing. Aside from those two songs, if you're into excellent guitar work, then pick up this cd. As an added bonus, Ian Anderson plays the flute on "Play Minstrel Play." I found that as time progressed, Candice Night's vocals appealed more to me. Her soft voice is suited to the sort of Renaissance music that they produce, and some of her lyrics are quite sweet, as heard on "Be Mine Tonight."
Free Music Review: A masterpiece Hit: 5 Stars
I was only 13 or so when my dad popped in the cassette (oh, the ages of cassette) into the player in our car; when the first song plays ("Shadow of the Moon") I was immediately hooked. This obviously wasn't the typical thing that a 13-years-old would love to listen to, but there I was, enjoying every single track, even the instrumentals. The long journey seems remarkably long without playing this cassette once. The music is soulful, the lyrics even more so, the guitar is awesome and Candice's vocals are marvellous! Even after listening to this album countless times on countless journeys I was still consistently happy with it. Definitely a masterpiece! Too bad my brother had to play with the cassette and ruin it. I will detest him forever for that. *smirks* But yes, it does make a nice listen while driving, doesn't it?
Free Music Review: keywords: RHYTHM PAGAN RENNAISANCE CELTIC MINSTREL Hit: 5 Stars
Bought the CD on a whim because it looked intriguing - Got it home and LOVED IT!!! Originally (when buying the CD) I had no clue it was THE Ritchie Blackmore, but I love the departure from past efforts. 3 years later I lost the CD in a house fire and was not happy at all thinking I wasn't going to be able to replace it. THANK YOU AMAZON!!! There were over 1000 CD's in that collection, and only a handful of discs I continue to miss listening to 3 years after the fire - This is one of those handful. So 6 years later not only WOULD I buy it again but I will be replacing that CD for sure, and getting a backup. VERY LIGHT RENNAISANCE STLYE OF MUSIC - Perfect "in a funk" tunes - Just the thing to lift your blues and bring a smile to your visage once again.
Free Music Review: Love the genre, love the music. . . Hit: 5 Stars
I first heard Blackmore Night on Tampa's wonderful, listener-supported community radio station several weeks ago and was swept off my feet (well, would have been if I wasn't in my car driving to work) by Candice Night's beautiful, ethereal vocals. I find this music to be reminiscent of Loreena McKennitt and Pentangle, two other favorite artists of mine.As a listener of Deep Purple and Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow in the 60's and 70's, I was both surprised and pleased to hear what Ritchie is up to now. I consider it a fantastic career move, love the music, and bought both this CD and "Fires at Midnight" the same day!!
Free Music Review: Pleasant Surprise Hit: 5 Stars
I was def. not expecting what was on this CD; This was the first of many similar outings by Blackmore and wife Candy, and certainly the best. While some may find the vocals a little too 'sweet', others will just get used to it. 'Wish You Were Here' is pure genius, and there are only a handful of so-so songs. I have always been a fan of Blackmore's guitar playing, and he does no wrong here...This is a nice 'semi-mystical-down-time' CD with alot of nice melodies, harmonies, and mood. Some sappy lyrics, but overall refreshing. Nice production, too.
