Free Music Review: Blackmore's Night "Under a Violet Moon"
Hit: 5 Stars

Nice change of pace for Richie. I stumbled upon this tour and it was just an incredible sound! Very solid collection of tunes!

Free Music Review: Possibly their weakest album, but still great
Hit: 4 Stars

If you got past the shock of hearing your metal hero finding peace, balance, and yes... love , with his current couple Candace Night, most likely you fell under the spell and started looking for more. This was their second release. Like other reviewers , I find this just a little but less catchy, but still this has many memorable songs. The opening, title theme, may sound simple, but it's very well built. By now you may have realized that Ritchie Blackmore was really always into this kind of music, but he's only now playing it as it sounds "unplugged" and in a more "earthy" context. You can hear this on "Morning Star",which is a very Gipsy tune, but if you hear it well, Blackmore's old riffs were really this kind of music played in electric guitar at high volume (this is as high-speed as anything he did before, or even more). "Pass time with good company" is a classic English sixteenth madrigal, composed by no other than King Henry VIII.Their version is relaxed and "soft", and if you don't know the tune from other sources this may mislead your appreciation, so look for "The Complete music of Henry VIII" on period instruments to hear the full power of this piece and understand why it is a classic in its genre. "Avalon" is one of my favourites , as well as "Wind in the Willows" (great for a day at the outdoors)."March the heroes on" performs some slightly dissaponting keyboard, when one could expect more horns like in "Clock ticks on", but still very enjoyable."Catherine Howard's fate" is another reminiscence of Henry VIII, though this time is a tune of their own, and a very good song. I think Ritchie even plays lute on this one (there's more than just guitars in this). "Now and Then" , though musically just an adaptation of a prelude by J.S. Bach (one of Ritchie's constant refferences since his earliest years .... just in case you haven't noticed), still sounds very captivating. "Beyond the Sunset" sounds deceiptively simple; it's a guitar solo great to listen to at the end of the day, with or without a companion."Fools gold" is another very good song, with good lyrics and a catchy tune.Candace's cover to "Self portrait" gets mixed reviews. The original bluesy concept with powerful R.J. Dio's vocals surely lingers on all Ritchie's die hard fans, but Candace's performance is on its own kind a masterpiece. To me this is the best proof that Candace is not only a "cheesy" singer, but indeed a clever interpreter. With a low-volume, folksy arrangement, it still sounds sombre , and perhaps more scary than Dio. Overall , only slightly less powerful than the rest of their output, but I still think it's far better than what we hear in the radio. Don't get shyed away from this for getting one star less ; this is also a must buy.

Free Music Review: SOLID
Hit: 4 Stars

Another solid effort by Ritchie Blackmore. The track "Under a Violet Moon" is top of the line. I will say that I much prefer the more energetic version of it which is on the DVD. Ditto with "Wind in the Willow". But how cool is "Durch"? Or "Beyond the Sunset"?. Gotta love those instrumentals!!! Not that I have anything against Candy's smooth, yet unremarkable voice.....

Free Music Review: Blackmore does it again!
Hit: 4 Stars

Richie blackmore has always been my fav. guitarist. When he is with Deep Purple or Rainbow he always rocks. On this cd he changes from electric to acoustic guitar, but it still rocks. This cd is mellow, but it cranks at the same time. It reminds me of what Stevie Nicks would have sounded like with Richie on guitar. A must cd for any Richie Blackmore fan!

I didn't care for this album as much as "Ghost of a Rose" and Shadow of the Moon" although I still liked it. Hard to describe in other than my global impression.
