Free Music Review: Great Debut Album for Blake Lewis
Hit: 5 Stars

I'm going to go ahead and use Michelle's format for my review my his album by giving if it's fine by her by giving my opinion and rating of each song.

1. Silence is Golden...- Pretty good intro to start off his album, corresponds with his outro.

2. Break Anotha- Good use of beatboxing, well-written lyrics for his single.(7.5-8/10)

3. Gots to Get Her- Could make for a good dance song, tune is very nice with the lyrics.(8/10)

4. Know My Name- My favorite song on the album, guest raps make the song better, lyrics are catchy in this one.(9/10)

5. How Many Words- One of the songs I liked more the more I listen to it, one of the more romantic songs on the CD. (8/10)

6. Surrender- Loved this the more I listen to it, didn't like it as much as the first 4 songs but I feel like it doesn't have anything that makes it really good. (7/10)

7. Hate 2 Love Her- I think the chorus was good here, could be another club/dance song, liked the beat on this song. (7.5/10)

8. Without You- Don't think these kind of songs fit Blake's style, chorus was my favorite part of the song but even I thought it was just ok. (5.5-6/10)

9. Here's My Hello- I think a good number of songs here could be singles, and I agree that this is one of them. Love lyrics here, romantic song and song is catchy. (8-8.5/10)

10. What'cha Got 2 Lose?- Pretty good song, wasn't great for me but another nicely produced song. (7.5/10)

11. She's Makin' Me Lose It- Agree with the Prince comments on this song, another catchy song for me with a good tune. (8.5/10)

12. BShorty Grabs Mic!- Short beatbox track, good or bad addition to the album depends on what you think of his beatboxing, I think it was pretty good.

13. End of the World- One of the more romantic songs, his voice sounds a little better than some of the other slower songs with a nice chorus. (7-7.5/10)

14. 1000 Miles- 3rd song that I loved more I listened to it, another one where I think chorus was good, I think this can make a good "ending" song. (7.5-8/10)

15. I Got U- Great song to end it off, soothing song where I think I could relax and think with it. (8/10)

16. ...I Choose Noise- Corresponds with Intro, good way to close out the album.

What to expect from Blake Lewis on his debut. Would it be full of songs with beatboxing everywhere or would it have mostly him singing and no beatboxing at all?

Well its been answer and for most of the ride "Audio Day Dream". Takes you on a ride that you wont want to get off at anytime. Aside from one too many interludes although i did enjoy "Bshorty Grabs Mic" personally that gave that element that got him to the finals in AI. But he doesnt rely on that at all throughout the album which is a pleasant surprise.

He wrote on just about every song adding his own personal touch to the cd along with Ryan Tedder (of OneRepublic). They and other writers/producers create a sound for Blake that works well for him and draws in the listener at the same time. I found myself tapping my feet on "Gots To Get Her" (Inspired by "Puttin On The Ritz). It just had a old school kind of jazz, swing thing going for it that i enjoyed.

On some debut cds artists feel the need to colloborate with everyone and their momma. Blake only has one featured artist on the cd and that's Lupe Fiasco on "Know My Name" another song that's quickly growing on me. Of particular note are the ballads throughout the cd like "End of the World" (one of my fav on ADD), "Here's My Hello" and "Without You" they give you another side of him that wasnt really exposed on the show.

With the exception "I Got U" which i just didn't really care for all the other songs are either repeat worthy and or download worthy as well.

But throught Audio Day Dream. He takes chances and experiments on different sounds in songs and writes what he feels. Yes, everyone isnt going to like this and feel. Its not what they expected and that's cool everyone isnt going to like the cd regardless of how many listens.

I'm very pleasantly surprised with his debut effort and can only hope that he continues to improve in the music business. I'm glad chose to do his own thing on this one and go a different route.

He might not be the AI champ, but with this cd. He'll win a whole lot of fans and much notice for dropping this one on folks. Your fan base continue to grow.

Overall 4.5 out of 5
(minus .5 for a couple of the interludes & I Got U)

Keep on doing your thing, BL.

Free Music Review: Distinctive!
Hit: 5 Stars

Audio Day Dream (ADD) is a master class on sound that embraces the eighties with cathcy lyrics and a trance like quality that shifts you seamlessly from one song to the next while remaining surprisingly current. Ranging from the simply beautiful (How Many Words, 1,000 Miles) to the fun and funky (What'cha Got 2 Lose, She's Makin' Me Lose It), to the pure fun pop (Hate 2 Love Her, Here's My Hello), this really is an awesome CD. Sure, the album is a little schizophrenic and all over the map, but hey, check out the title! I think the songs do fit under one cohesive category of "80s electro-pop with a modern flair" but each track fits it in its own distinctive style making it a very cool, hip, and unique album. If I had to pick a favorite, I would have to go with She's Makin' Me Lose It, which was produced by BT, has the most awesome effects, and is reminiscent of Prince, although a bit less audacious.

If the CD has any weaknesses, it would be the tunes Surrender and Without You. These ballads aren't terrible, but seem a little bland in comparison with the rest of the pieces, and it should be noted that Surrender is the only song on the CD which does not give Blake any writing credit. I also wasn't blown away by B'Shorty Grabs the Mike!, but it was a nice inclusion since Blake got so much recognition for his beat boxing prowess on AI.

All in all, this is by far the most creative and innovative CD that I have heard in a while, regardless if you consider it just another "Idol kid record". It truly stands on its own for its ingenuity. This CD is perfect for anyone looking for something a little different, but still contemporary, and really anyone who liked Blake on AI. It isn't about Blake's voice alone; he has a fine one that gets the job done and its silkiness wraps around the lyrics with precision, but its more about his love of sound and his earnestness to create an album to embrace that. In the end it's all about the music, and thankfully, Blake's effort is too.

Free Music Review: It shines!
Hit: 5 Stars

Blake Lewis's voice and song style remind me sometimes of Justin Timberlake, sometimes of Maroon 5, and the electro-pop sounds remind me of "Celebrity", 'N Sync's best album. But that's OK. Most pop music is derived from something that came before it. What counts is what an artist does with what he's got. Thankfully, Blake has a very, VERY appealing voice, and the personality to put it out there. The complex, inventive and flawlessly tight production would overpower a lesser talent, but Blake not only manages to make himself heard in the midst of it all, he also blends right in with it. Another thing I like about the album is that it has an overall aura of happiness - not a dopey kind of happiness, but hip, confident happiness. It's fast, it's bright, it shines.

The 'N Sync/Maroon 5 influence is evident in the first complete track, "Break Anotha". That sound continues throughout the disc, but there is more. In "How Many Words", "Without You" and "End of the World", we get to hear Blake do some conventional singing and show off his voice. "Surrender" and "Hate 2 Love Her" both have a harder rock sound. "What'Cha Got 2 Lose" and "She's Makin' Me Lose It" feature a little Prince/funk connection. "1000 Miles" is a little lighter, sort of breezy pop, with another excellent vocal performance.

For me, this CD has "new world" written all over it. I love it when I find a new artist, and I've got one here, and I can't wait to see what he does next!

Free Music Review: You Gotta Love It!
Hit: 5 Stars

Watching Season 6 was great...not because it was the first season that I was able to catch in whole, but because there were so many people on it that were woderful singers (i.e. Blake, Jordin, Melinda, Lakeisha ect) However, I immediately was drawn to Blake & Jordin [Sparks]...Both excellent singer in their own right..I was torn between the two because I really wanted both to win...But Jordin took season 6 and I was glad. So I began wondering a few months later...will Blake drop an album? With his talent, he had to. So...I eventually found out in late Dec. that his
album was already in stores...I rushed out and bought it. This CD doesn't disappoint!

Audio Daydream or ADD [A clever title] is a stellar album, boasting many different influences of music throughout. This is probably the only [other] album that I can play straight through each listen, not having to skip any songs...The other would be P!nk's 1999/2000 Laface Debut "Can't Take Me Home". On ADD, you get 80's inspired tracks, Funk, R&B, Pop, Techno...you get it all on one album. Not many people can successfully pull off an album that goes in many different directions...and Blake has done just that!
