Free Music Review: The next Stomp!
Hit: 5 Stars

The CD, while excellent, does not do the show justice-- it's a must see! It's coming on a major North American tour-- GO AND SEE IT!

Free Music Review: Missing the whole experience
Hit: 4 Stars

After seeing this show live, this CD just barely misses making both exciting. There are a couple numbers (Battery Battle) not included that would go a long way into making this disc into a true Blast!

Bad part done, now for the good parts. The musicianship shown in these selections are astounding. Ben Harloff's solo in "Lost" brings me to tears anytime I hear it. The audacity to have fun being displayed by these semi-professional artists during "Officer Krupke" is a hoot! (Just be sure to catch all the little fun riffs a la The Simpsons theme.) The playfulness in "Land of Make Believe" sends you back to your childhood of many a care-free day.

You miss some of the visuals from the show. I recommend the DVD to get some of the things you do miss. And if you ever get the chance, see it live!

Free Music Review: Star of Indiana
Hit: 4 Stars

This recording probably set new standard for Marching band / brass and percussion instrumental music(since there are no others like it, you really can't compare it to anything else out there). The music selections were fantastic, range from jazz, broadway, to classical, with a little twist of marching and other percussions, unfortunately, some of the songs from the musical were not included with the CD (Pines of Rome, etc). Unlike live drum corps performance recordings, it did not reach full volume potential, and the tempo of the music can be some what slow for several songs(every body loves blues/malaguena), but it is a fresh of breath to listen to it in B flat instead of G. I saw them live in London back in December, you must see them yourself to appriciate the recording!! get it, and enjoy it.

Free Music Review: The title fits!
Hit: 4 Stars

The first thing I thought of when I heard this recording was my time back in high school band - though these folks sound like no high school band you've ever heard. They sound more like a drum and bugle corps on steroids.

The renditions on this recording are high-octane, to say the least. This band goes full tilt, taking no prisoners. This is not music you wnat to wake up to, but will get you going. It's visceral - that's the best word I can think of. The rendition of Malaguena is amazing, so full of energy you wonder where they get it from.

If you're looking for a high-powered, brass/drums oriented recording, get this one.

Free Music Review: Wow!!!!
Hit: 4 Stars

I just had the oppertunity to see Blast! this past week in Minneapolis. It was simply amazaing, so pricise, so visual and just brassy. The CD was O.K. but they left off some numbers that held the show together like the "color" song, I keep humming it to myself and what about the precussion ensemble? The precussion section alone is half the drum corp and lends a great deal of entertainment seeing it live or on a CD. I wish all the best to the continued sucessess of Blast! ...
