Free Music Notes for Blaze Of Glory: Songs Written And Performed By Jon Bon Jovi, Inspired By The Film Young Guns IIFree Music Review: One of my all time favorites. Hit: 5 Stars
Since this one has been out for over ten years now, I guess I should review it since itis my all time favorite soundtrack to any movie (even edging out The Crow). This soundtrack is by far one of the best you can find. It might also help, that thanks to the 2000 release of Crush (and the fact that Bon jovi is "cool" again People will buy this album. I ,myself, have worn out two tapes and am on my second cd version of this one. It's just incredible. After eleven years, I still get goosebumps after "Santa Fe". I'm also very pleased with how jon and the boys have handled themselves after all these years and how they survived the grunge, industrial, rap-metal trends that murdered nearly everyone else from their era. However, they did survive for a reason, not luck. Their music was actually good. not just a flavor of the month. If you're a long time Bon jovi fan you probably already own it, but if you're a newcomer, check this out. I think you will be pleased to see the magic that made you buy Crush, was here then, just like it always was. I'm kinda sad to say that the rest of the band wasn't there for this one (although there is CERTAINLY nothing wrong with Jeff Beck's playing). In a lot of ways, this film is just like the movie, wild and rocking. check it out and for give this somewhat sporadic and incohesive review. Enjoy.
Free Music Review: Soundtrack To Lame Western Movie Actually Has Deeper Cautionary Message Hit: 5 Stars
BLAZE OF GLORY is not a Bon Jovi album, but rather Jon Bon Jovi and session players doing the soundtrack of the terrible Emilio Estevez film YOUNG GUNS II. However, don't let that deter you from buying this album, because for an album associated with such a lame movie, the music and lyrics are of remarkably high quality. The lyrics seem at first to be standard Old West fare, but if your intake of Omega-3 fatty acids and B-vitamins is ample, you can tell without reading the lyric sheet- in other words, by just listening VERY HARD- that there is a deeper meaning to them. The songs actually form a cautionary suite that warns against getting into dangerous situations of ANY kind, inspiring me to never go anywhere without telling someone where I'll be, as well as influencing my predilection for putting up photos of pretty actresses on my wall as a deterrent to self-indulgent behavior. If I had not believed this interpretation of the lyrics, I would not be living on my own right now. If you've just gotten your first apartment, or are getting ready to, you MUST buy this album. It's Jon Bon Jovi's first truly serious work, presaging KEEP THE FAITH by two years, making it a pivotal moment in his career.
Free Music Review: Inspiration achieved Hit: 5 Stars
As I understand it, the story goes that Jon Bon Jovi was asked by the producers of this movie if they could use "Wanted Dead Or Alive" in their soundtrack. Bon Jovi told them that he didn't think it fit, being too "modern day" for the film. He did, however, offer to write a song specifically for the movie that was more befitting to the story. What resulted was the much more appropriate "Blaze of Glory". But, being Jon Bon Jovi, he didn't stop there. He was so inspired by the movie and its predecessor he ended up writing a whole album's worth of songs. With help from great musicians like Elton John, Jeff Beck, Aldo Nova and Little Richard he conjured up some really good songs that are well produced and very relevant to the subject matter at hand. Along with the title track my favorite songs are "Justice In The Barrel","Santa Fe" and "Blood Money"(which Jon wrote "for Bob Dylan", who had previously written the soundtrack to "Pat Garrett and Billy The Kid"). This is not the typical Bon Jovi record, nor should it be. But if you like his band you will probably like this solo effort just as much. I certainly do.
Free Music Review: Lost gem after lost gem Hit: 5 Stars
You haven't heard the truly great songs on this record. The two hits, "Blaze of Glory," and "Miracle" are strong tracks, no doubt about it. But the greatness remaining on this album is an eye-opening study of the songwriter named Jon Bon Jovi. This album feels like a western. No doubt. Jon Bon Jovi may be from Jersey but he knows what the old west is about -- dirt, spit, blood. Big emotions and big voices. That's what this album provides. When this album was written Jon probably didn't know how to write a bad song. But there is one song that is truly unforgettable. It is called "Santa Fe" and it is probably the pinnacle of songwriting for Jon. He delivers a vocal performance that he could probably never duplicate in a song that lies itself bleeding on a dirty rock and roll highway. Listening to this song is exhausting, I can't imagine performing it. The rest of this record may not reach that pinnacle but it gets close. And how many records can say that?
Free Music Review: Won 2 Golden Globes and Nominated For an Oscar!!! Hit: 5 Stars
And that is just 1/10 of the sucess and power of this album. I LOVE BON JOVI, but I can honestly say that this is very different from the band's style. Tho, I think this album is in the style of "Wanted Dead or Alive" (well if you haven't heard that song, where the hell have u been?!) On this CD, Jon went all out in writing AWESOME lyrics that really touch you or make you wanna sing along. Although it is a sondtrack, this CD stands on its own, providing its own very clever story and message. AND! This album may have the most amazing guitar solos, due to not only Jon's great talent but the lil help from his friends: Jeff Beck, Elton Joh, Kenny Aronoff, Aldo Nova, Danny Kortchmar, Little Richard, Bob Glaub, etc. All in all this is an amazing album, more than just words and melody, these songs have halped me through a lot, just as they won over millions of other fans. Just give it a chance, trust - you'll never regret it!
