Free Music Review: Best music by a 'composer' in a film

The first time I saw the film "Trois Couleurs: Bleu", the music simply blew me away. I have seen other films, notably "Mr Holland's Opus", which aimed to feature a simply amazing piece by a great composer - however "Bleu" is the only film I have seen where the music lived up to the reputation of the character in the film.The highlight of this CD is the "Song for the Unification of Europe", which is the feature piece of the film. This song is fantastic - a very passionate and beautiful piece, and the way it sets the text of 1 Corinthians 13 to the beautiful msuic is a highlight of the film and of this soundtrack. The CD is worth buying simply for this song.
That said, the rest of the soundtrack is also fantastic - the music is quite simply beautiful, and if you enjoyed the film or if you simply like deeply emotional music, this CD is worth buying.
The only detraction I noted is that all of the pieces are quite short - the "Song for the Unification of Europe" being the longest at a bit over 5 minutes. While this is not a problem in itself, and it does present the music as it appears in the film, I find it a little annoying at times and would have liked it if longer versions of some of the pieces were performed for the soundtrack.

First heard this playing in a restaurant in Krakow and was even more enchanted when I discovered who the composer and director of the film are. Very theatrical compositions. Sometimes repetitious, but an amazing example of Preisner's work. Some of the pieces forcibly removed me from my chair and agitated me emotionally. A great original soundtrack, very beutiful songs. Some of them really short, but really thought to be conducted by the movie itself.
Main theme is specially good and exciting.
Free Music Review: OK but Red is better

The Blue, White, Red movie trilogy is fantastic, especially Red! And, of course, the music helped make it so, especially Red! But, this Blue CD, like most movie soundtracks, is too chunky - bits and peices of songs lifted from the movie and thrown together with barely a cohesiveness. Now if the music was taken from the movie and then worked into longer songs and arranged in a flowing order then it would be worth repeated listening. But how can you get emotionally drawn into a song that lasts only 1 minute!? Which is frustratingly followed by 5 or 6 more 30 to 50 seconds-long tracks. Don't get me wrong...there's some beautiful music here but they'd be more aptly called music "clips" not songs. If you want to collect a bit of the musical character of this trilogy without shelling out 45 bucks for all three I'd definitely recommend Red. Red DOES have a cohesiveness - at least enough of one. My favorite music from the movie is from when the gorgeous Irene Jacob/her character is floating down the runway at the fashion show. Well, this bit of music is revised, reworked, and repeated through out maybe half of the album - which, even though they are still only 2-4 minute tracks, allow you to "get into" the music. And the other tracks that make up the rest of the album are quite nice, too.
