Free Music Notes for For My Friends

Free Music Review: Its not "Soup" ...
Hit: 2 Stars

This album start off strong w/ "For My Friends" and "With the Right Set of Eyes" but it falls off after that. The lyrics are pretty poorly written, and for the most part it is just a boring album. The new lead vocalist tries to sound like Shannon at times, but it just doesn't have the same amount of soul to it. I love Blind Melon and really appreciate Shannon even more after listening to this one. If you want to check out Blind Melon get Soup or Nico.

Free Music Review: Tarnishes the Blind Melon Legacy
Hit: 1 Stars

I'll keep this real simple: this album is an abomination. It is the remaining Blind Melon members' attempt to cash in on their previous glory by hiring a sub-par Shannon Hoon sound-alike and trying to carry on as if their most important member wasn't missing. Being a tremendous fan of Blind Melon, I gave this album a really fair shot. Actually, I gave it several fair shots, hoping the album would get better over multiple listens as many claim it does. Well, it doesn't. The songs lay flat, the lyrics sound trite and the production is nothing to get excited over. It's an all-around dud.

If you love the original Blind Melon records, don't listen to this one. It will forever sully the others in your mind. And if you're looking for a place to start with Blind Melon, go back to their debut and work your way forward through "Soup" and "Nico." Just remember to stop there and forget this embarrassment.

Free Music Review: Missable
Hit: 1 Stars

It just isn't important music. Once upon a time, Blind Melon was a very rare breed of band. Like U2 or Pearl Jam, brimming with talent and pregnant with possibility, slinging dirty poetry right into your ear without even having to aim. They had the words and the edge and charisma, and the inclination to not merely entertain you, but make you feel something; to break your heart with nostalgia and set you to longing for some lost something irretrievable.
All that died with Shannon Hoon. And it will never come back.
I have nothing against those remaining making new music, however I do think they should be doing it under a different name. This is simply not Blind Melon.

Free Music Review: Pathetic
Hit: 1 Stars

Bad, real bad. I respect the fact that the surviving members of Blind Melon wanted to make music together again but they should have least hired a new singer that sounded nothing like Shannon. I would have had way more respect for the project. Go buy/listen to the real deal ala the Blind Melon debut or Soup.
