Free Music Review: WOW did my head HURT!!!
Hit: 1 Stars

WOW, DID MY HEAD HURT!!! The drudge just went on and on. I kept thinking: Shoot that damn singer and get her and me out of our misery. It was as if she kept dragging something that somehow kept holding back-- and all you got was a monotonic and endless blackboard scratching. Never heard this band before, but this album seemed to involve dedication to a compositional style (perhaps an overplay of some sort of intended effect) to the exclusion of the sort of music it produces. The singer's voice was smooth and well controlled-- indicating well trained abilities and the sort of confidence that comes only from considerable experience-- so I have to lay the fault at the foot of lackluster composition. I LOVE CLASSICAL MUSIC-- particularly Baroque-- so the over-use of harpsichord mentioned by another reviewer sould not in itself have put me off. It's the singing that kept raking the surface of my brain-- scratching superficially enough never to actually stick and draw blood. So I can't figure out how so much deeply-felt odious effect could have come from such light scratching. I felt we would never get to the end of each tune.

Personally, I have a great deal of respect for artistic ability-- not only to creat art, but to deliver it as well. So I hate to be quite so negative (who the hell am I to stand so pompously in judgment of others whose talents I nowhere near possess!), particularly as this is an apparently good band with creative sound stuff. That's why I'm glad to see-- for the band's sake-- that there were quite a few reviews that liked this album that hit me so wrong. It's just that, to my ears, this one seems a big miss, and I can't imagine what could be done to fix it . . . except, as so many of us have had to do so often in our creative lives, GO BACK TO THE DRAWING BOARD. With sincere best wishes for this obviously capable band's future efforts, N.
