I just saw my favorite active band, Blonde Redhead a few nights ago and the show was miserable. Their last two albums of nightmare reverb synth wish wash, void of melodies and hooks, is terrible. They've ruined themselves with 23 and Penny.
Misery, on the other hand is their best album since those first amazing two albums. Butterfly IS full of Blonde Redhead galore...hooks, melodies, aggression, beauty, DRUMS! all all things that have ever made this band great.

My musical love affair with Blonde Redhead started after hearing one song on an indie college radio station... Since then I picked up this cd and there is no disappointment whatsoever on the whole... "Doll Is Mine" is my favorite track... What can I say, to me, their instrumentation, lyrics and vocals are perfection... I recently just picked up BRH, listening to some songs like "Astro Boy","Missle" and others. This album certainly sounds different but it's just what i expected from an experimental band like BRH. Of course this album is great!! There is no reason it shouldn't be, they are all very talented musicians and will continue to change their "sound". They are my favorite band and as always their melody has evolved with my tastes. I knew even before I purchased the album that it was a gem. Buy this album for the song "doll is mine" alone. The whole album is just immaculately produced and executed, with richly layered songs brimming with flowing string melodies and vocals that are genuinely disturbing from their eccentricity. This is by far one of the best albums in recent years.
