Free Music Review: Blown Away
Hit: 4 Stars

I can honestly say I've heard of Blonde Redhead before, but hadn't really invested much time in learning more about them, or listening to their music. I attended a concert in which they opened, and was floored. This band is so artistic and is able to capture the melancholic mood perfectly. As mentioned before, this is a group you are either going to love, or really not like. There isn't a lot of middle ground. The vocals are what causes such a variance in appreciate, or non-appreciation, for the overall music. Instrumentally, very sound and phenomenally put together. Haku's vocals are the deciding factor. I'm very pleased with my purchase of the album and will be looking into this band more as a result.

Free Music Review: Make this record your Mistress!
Hit: 4 Stars

A perfect word to describe this record would be "fantastic." It sounds, in some moments like something out of the Shire or the grounds of Hogwarts. There are no pan flutes or mandolins, but the boy/girl vocals sound somewhat prepubescent and endearing, like a woodnymph or a satyr singing in a forest. The combination of femininity and artistic approaches to what can be a very mechanical process make the recordings sound very organic, even when samples and synth-sounds flourish and crescendo in the background. These three artists made my flight from San Francisco to Anchorage feel both melancholy and promising. I am haunted by this album (in the best way possible) and I blame Galadriel.

Free Music Review: it's a good one
Hit: 4 Stars

Do you really need another person to tell you how great this album is? Probably not. You should definitely pick this up. The songs have plenty of minor key goodness, with cool beats, and; this one is a big selling point for me, they don't sound like anyone else. The only reason this fell short of a 5 is that a couple of songs with the guy singing are stinkers, but this definitely does not detract too much from the overall worth of the album.

If you are into female vocally type acts (there's two singers here, but the girl is better), this will be a refreshing change, and you'll probably like it alot.

Free Music Review: Great compositions and performances
Hit: 4 Stars

This is a wonderful, understated album I can't recommend highly enough. The playing on the album is excellent, and the growth of the band is immediately apparent to anyone who has followed them for any length of time.

There are instances when the heaps of strings tend to overwhelm the songs, and some of the tunes reach too far and grow ponderous.

The faults pale in comparison to the beauty of songs like "Elephant Woman" and the title track. Enjoy!

Free Music Review: beautiful
Hit: 4 Stars

I'm terrible at music reviews, but I think this is a beautiful album. I've played it for some people who cringe at the vocals. I'm perfectly aware this isn't for everyone. The more mainstream you are, the less you're going to like it.

It's a slow, beautifully moody recording. Whether or not you can accept the whine of the vocals is up to you. If you don't like it on one track, you're not going to like it on any of the others.
