Free Music Notes for Parallel Lines

Free Music Review: Classic new wave power pop-punk
Hit: 5 Stars

With its irresistible mixture of candy-coated 60s pop sensibilities, new wave cynicism, and the raw aggression of punk, Parallel Lines is one of the great albums of the late 70s. Its 12 songs are as fun and ferocious as anything the Ramones ever recorded, with a kind of snarl and bite that approaches Elvis Costello's. Songs like "Just Go Away" and "Picture This" fuse bouncing, relentless melodies with snidely poetic lyrics, while "Pretty Baby" is nothing short of gorgeous, candy coated power pop. "One Way Or Another" has a wonderfully relentless, urgent drive, and "Sunday Girl" features a hypnotic wisp of melody. There are a few more slightly experimental tunes, such as the icy, ethereal "Fade Away And Radiate," or the eternally danceable disco-punk-glam of "Heart Of Glass." All in all, this is a fantastic album, easily one of the best of the whole punk movement.

Free Music Review: No-One Hotter than Blondie in 1978 with this, the best American Pop Album of 1978
Hit: 5 Stars

Here we go with one of the definitive albums of the 70's and one of the top 5 albums of 1978. This is the definitive Blondie album. In the U.K. four of these tracks went on to become singles 'Hanging on the Telephone' a wonderful cover, 'Picture This', 'Sunday Girl' & 'Heart of Glass'. Debbie Harry becomes of course a cultural pop icon for good reason. Nobody was hotter in 1978 (I had the obligatory poster on my bedroom wall to attest to that). It seems a little pointless to leave any kind of in-depth review of this album as I'm sure that anyone who's ever heard of Blondie will be familiar with most of the tracks on this album. Suffice to say that it's one my top 5 fave's of 1978 & at the time of its release was a really exciting album to listen to with one of the best Album Cover's devised. Nothing less than 5 stars for this album will do.

Free Music Review: Yay
Hit: 5 Stars

Though it may seem cliched to call "Parallel Lines" Blondie's best album, it's certainly up there for me. All of the tracks are great, with absolutely no fillers.
I have this album not only on CD, but also on vinyl, and I'm glad that I do. Each provides a separate listening experience unique to its own. I could listen to the album in its entirety, for it really fits every mood and never grows old.
"Parallel Lines" starts with the pounding "Hanging on the Telephone," and then delves into the hit "One Way or Another." Now that's a start that's going to draw people in. "Parallel Lines" also shows the band's soft side with "Fade Away and Radiate" and a Phil Spector sound with "Sunday Girl," not to mention the disco-y "Heart of Glass." Great song after great song, this is one of my favorite albums.

Free Music Review: 11:59:59 and still counting
Hit: 5 Stars

Bazooka bubblegum topped with Debbie Harry's fetish sprinkles ("I'm your dog, but not your pet"), this concept album by one of the original Noo Yawk "punk" outfits (dig those skinny ties!) chronicles the rise and fall of an obsessive romantic crush, from those giddy first moments "Hangin' on the Telephone" to the arch dismissal of "Just Go Away." The remastered reissue includes two versions of "Heart of Glass" and a cover of T. Rex's dirty, sweet ode to a cat in black, "Bang A Gong (Get It On)" in addition to the icy sleekness of "Sunday Girl," a Robert Fripp cameo on "Fade Away And Radiate," and the still-ferocious-after-all-these-years stalker anthem, "One Way or Another."

Free Music Review: Fade away... Radiate
Hit: 5 Stars

" The beams become my dream.....My dream is all on the screen"
this song embraces the silver screen era, cool I guess, but the thing is.. she sings SO beautifully. And shes not trying to be Mariah Carey or (god forbid) Celine Dion. This album is #140 on the RS 500 list, and it deserves to be there, dont write Blondie off as new wave rock novelty....no way.. Parallel Lines is a classic! It sure beats all this teeny, rappy, "Im cool" sort of trash tunes that bombards our hearing once in a while. I got an idea ....lets tie up all these pukes and MAKE THEM listen to Parallel Lines over and again until they realize how awesome this album is. ... OK Im ok...I just hate kids, thats all. Ok thanx for listening.
