Free Music Notes for Blue CrushFree Music Review: Great Soundtrack Hit: 5 Stars
The trailer of "Blue Crush" uses Blestenation's mix of "Cruel Summer." The first few seconds of one of the trailers shows surfers riding the waves to the song. If people are put off by any preconceptions of the soundtrack ("Oh, man, don't tell me -- Beach Boys songs!"), they might be pleasantly surprised by the mix here. The music for "Blue Crush" is eclectic and, if surf music's not your thing, there are other favorable tracks on this album. The "star" song seems to be Lenny Kravitz's "If I Could Fall In Love," a loud and catchy rock song, but I found many of the unknown-to-me musicians to be equally deserving, if not more, of the single. N.E.R.D.'s "Rock Star" appears as a remix, improving a slow, monotonous track to an upbeat techno / dance song. Starting off the reggae theme is Beenie Man's "Party Hard," which segues midway to more of a typical R&B piece, suitable mid-tempo play for a party. The aforementioned Blestenation mix of "Cruel Summer" is a perfect party or workout track, the most energetic and radio-friendly song of the collection. Chicken, whoever they are, are sure to find fame if they continue with songs like "Big Love," one of the best tracks on the soundtrack. With a contagious reggae beat and sexy male vocals, this song sets the summer beat. Next comes the ethereal Beth Orton, who is claiming fame for her Dido-esque vocals. "Daybreaker" may seem out of place at first, but its soul-baring and whimsical lyrics make this an interesting addition. Playgroup's "Front 2 Back" is a bouncy dance track, which is somewhat similar to "Party Hard." The film opens with the main character, Anne-Marie, waking up to Damian Marley's "And Be Loved," a cover of a Marley reggae song; the song is repeated later in the film for good reason -- it's a classic, and this version does it justice. Zero 7's "Destiny," a slow trip hop song reminiscent of the Sneaker Pimps or Portishead, and The Doves' Zen-like and instrumental (e.g., surf guitars) "Firesuite" end the album on a soft and chill out note. In general, this is a surprisingly complete and apt album for the summer. Like reggae, pop, dance, rock, rap, or techno? They are all here in one form or another. Even if the film doesn't appeal to you, the soundtrack, featuring some talented unknowns, will have you in summer vacay vibe long after the temperature has dropped.
Free Music Review: do NOT start your summer without it!!! Hit: 5 Stars
When I first saw Blue Crush, the first thing I noticed was the fact that the music credits featured were mostly artists I've never even heard of. I recently went to the mall and chanced upon the CD and took it to the listening booth and found it very eclectic with different genres jammed together. Although I was disappointed that it only contained 11 songs, the soundtrack still delivered attitude, steering away from the stereotypical beach sounds, which was a complete relief.
The carrier single of the disc is rock god Lenny Kravitz's kick-ass song, "If I Could Fall In Love". The music video featured the three surfer girls in the movie. Definitely a good start for a rock intro. Following is the hard-driven techno dance remix of N.E.R.D.'s "Rock Star", a head-banging track good for beach house parties.
From rock, the CD moves to a beach staple sound - pure reggae and hiphop. It features upbeat tunes such as "Party Hard" and "Big Love", with wicked remixes like "And Be Loved", "Cruel Summer (Blestenation Mix)", and "Front 2 Back (Fatboy Slim Remix)". The songs create the feel of having a jammin' good time at the beach with your friends, so you definitely can't go wrong.
The ethereal Beth Orton gives a haunting contribution to the soundtrack in "Daybreaker", an upbeat trip-hop electronica song with evoking vocals and melody. Not to be outdone is the equally talented Nikka Costa with "Everybody Got Their Something".
Rounding off the disc are two beautiful ambient tracks to end a day at the beach. The creative duo of Zero 7 incorporates the perfect summer ballad in "Destiny" - a deliciously sensual chillout track which features the sublime vocals of Sia Furler, a perfect slow number to dance with your boo. And last but not the least, Doves gives a striking track in "Firesuite" - a mellow instumental that screams "beach lounge".
There were some songs, however, that should have been added to the soundtrack, most notably P.O.D., with their songs "Youth Of The Nation" (heard only on the surfing training of Anne Marie) and "Alive" (featured on the trailer). But all in all, Blue Crush OST packs a mean tsunami punch. A perfect addition to your CD collection!
Free Music Review: This is the most banginest soundtrack on the marketplace Hit: 5 Stars
Basically........It has a Blestenation song in it.thats all that needs to be said. "Cruel summer" is on it.Which is also the ONLY version used in the commercial or movie,by the way. There is no ace of base version in the movie.Believe me.I know for a fact.Im an MBugout city resident and I know these things. On august 13th I ran out and bought 5 copies.one for me and the others for some freaks I know.Even thier puppets liked it.they were dancing without anybody holding them up by thier strings. plus it kept the bats away from the house.Especially the ones with rabies that fly around during the day.those things are crazy.I listen to #4 over and over...Even though I like the dirty version of the song better.I still like to MBugout to the whole blue crush soundtrack though because there is all those other songs that just fly by.then its right back to the song that shouldve been the single for it.Good ol #4 baby. you should peep some more BLESTeNATION songs.they are great. I listen to and buy all thier stuff from [address] they got a bugged out website too.
Free Music Review: Awesome Hit: 5 Stars
This soundtrack is much cooler than I expected. I bought it for the Blestenation remix, which is great to dance to in the car :), but there's a whole mix of stuff on here and nearly every one is great. My particular favorites are Daybreaker by Beth Orton, the N.E.R.D. remix, Front 2 Back by Playgroup, Everybody Got Their Something by Nikka Costa, and Destiny by Zero 7. I've never really listened to much reggae, but I like what's on this album. I personally don't care for the Lenny Kravitz song, but that's pretty much my only complaint. Oh, and also that they didn't include "Alive" by P.O.D., which they played in the preview for the movie, on this CD - I hate when they do that :P. Otherwise, I think this is an awesome album.
Free Music Review: An awesome soundtrack for an absolutely rad movie Hit: 5 Stars
I have to say the movie was absolutely fantastic and it just keeps on getting better with the soundtrack. You can't go wrong with it, it has a little bit of everything from soft melo tunes that make you feel in another world or just basically make you get up and jump up and down with the upbeat tunes. This is differnetly a cd that I will be playing all the time and is well worth it. I wish they did add POD but unfortunately was not included, for those wishing for the songs that are really good they would have to be Destiny - by zero cool, And be loved - Damian Marley and so many others. Trust me if you liked the music in the movie then you'll differnetly have no regrets about getting this soundtrack.
