Free Music Notes for The ComplexFree Music Review: Innovation at its best Hit: 5 Stars
Blue Man Group uses the innovation of their stage show along with traditional hard rock ideas to create something new. Many compare Blue Man Group with Kraftwerk in the seventies, but I think that even more than that BMG is bringing the spirit of innovation back to music. Today when all music is analyzed as a combination of influences it is important to remember that new things can happen. BMG comes to the music scene from the stage show, moving from a multi-sensory environment to a purely audio one. As a result I can't imagine listening to The Complex without knowing how they make the sounds, and many of the sounds resemble movements. For example one Blue Man swings a whip like piece of plastic to create a wooshing sound that seems like it should move the air. As a result BMG is something new, not just rehashed from a previous time.
Free Music Review: Rock Concert Movement Number One: The Basic Head Bob Hit: 5 Stars
If you can't see BMG live on the Complex Rock Tour this is the next best thing. BMG is always amazing and by all means see them live if you can. This CD has so much to recommend it from the amazingly layered percussion (at places there are over 50 percussion tracks simultaneously playing) to the wonderful guest vocalists, particularly Tracy Bonham (although I was a little less enthusiastic about Venus Hum). There really isn't a bad track on the CD, and the CD proves that BMG can coexist in the genres of rock and dance music in addition to their own individual, indefinable niche that only they can occupy. The sounds you hear here are like no other on any other CD, and that's a wonderful and refreshing thing. "Your attention please. Please yell if you are paying attention."
Free Music Review: Awesome! Hit: 5 Stars
I went to the BMG show a couple of nights ago when they were in Denver, and the new show was even better than the first! For one thing, they even expanded on their rock tunes, and they focused on a larger percussion section and even more electric guitar riffs mixed in the music. The lights were incredible, and the effects were awesome. The only downturn was when they had warm-up bands play for an hour and a half! Of course, they appeared on The Complex album and weren't bad to listen to. I think that it is safe to say that The Complex is better than Audio because now they expand their musical abilities to even higher levels. BMG even gave way to some heavy-metal tunes. Let me say it this way-if you are looking(or listening)for a treat, Blueman Group is the group to see(or hear)!
Free Music Review: Am i blue? Hit: 5 Stars
You're darn right i am! This is an album i passed up because of the 'professional' reviewers trashed it more often than not. I was drawn back again and again because of simple curiousity. I grabbed it, crossed my fingers, and placed it in my cd player. Unbelievable. Those critics,in my opinion, are dead wrong. Vocals, at least this time, DO add to the blue man group. These 'creations' are well crafted and colorful. So much fun to listen to. Their 're-do' of DONNA SUMMERS' "I feel love" was juiced up so strong that it actually overshadowed the original. So much power in this music. So much energy. And a nice selection of songs with incredible vocals. This is truly a great follow-up album from a group i will now stay true to with their every release. D*MN the critics.
Free Music Review: Excellent CD Hit: 5 Stars
Blue Man's second studio album. While I prefer the spread-out mix of the DVD-A version of this album (which is compatable and playable on most DVD-Video players!!) this is an excellent CD for stereo play in the car. Musical performances are excellent. Dave Mathew's vocals on "Sing Along" is great, and I'm surprised I'm not hearing this on the radio. (Then again, maybe I'm not. Radio sucks.) If you have to stay with stereo CD, I highly recommend this disk, if you have a Surround Sound system in your house, get the DVD-A version, and if you really want to rock out, get the Concert DVD "The Complex Rock Tour Live". For $14, it's worth the price just the the version of the Who's "Baba O'Reily" they do with Tracy Bonham on vocals AND violin! BUY IT!!
