You probably didn't watch or don't remember the pathetic sequel film. But, this 18-track soundtrack album is superb. It begins with "Born In Chicago," performed by the Paul Butterfield Blues Band and gets better with each subsequent track. "Cheaper To Keep Her," features Lonnie Brooks, Junior Wells and the nine-member Blues Brothers Band (BBB). "RESPECT" features Aretha Franklin with the BBB. "634-5789" has Eddie Floyd with Wilson Pickett and Jonny Lang supported by the BBB. "John The Revelation" is excellent with Taj Mahal, Sam Moore and Joe Morton.
"Season Of the Witch" gets a great reinterpretation by Doctor John with the BBB. "Funky Nassau" is great with Joe Morton, John Goodman and Erykah Badu. The album ends with "New Orleans," performed by the Louisiana Gator Boys and the BBB.
Obviously, these are not classic blues renditions, nor soulful mournings but in no way do they diminish or insult the original versions. These are upbeat, foot-stomping, shake-your-butt performances by great musicians and singers.
If you want to add some spice to your musical life, then I wholeheartedly recommend buying this album.

The world was hardly waiting with baited breath for a sequel to John Landis' endearingly sloppy "Blues Brothers." In fact, "Blues Brothers 2000" left nary a vapor trail in theaters on its way to unsuspecting video and cable patrons. Misguided, though lovingly executed, the cross-generation soundtrack makes as much room for Johnny Lang and John Popper as it does for Wilson Pickett, Junior Wells and Paul Butterfield.
