Free Music Notes for The Basement TapesFree Music Review: A Record I Go Back to Again and Again Hit: 5 StarsActually recorded in 1967 but not released until 1975. The Basement tapes had been around for years before they came out, bootlegged time and time again. This CD is pretty much about good time Rock and Roll, a fun album to listen to. There are serious songs here however, like "Tears of Rage," Though not in my top five Dylan faves, this is a record that I go back to again and again, in fact it's one of the first CDs I ripped into my Apple iPod. Dylan's voice is so pure on these songs, a precursor to the way he uses it on "Blood on the Tracks." Five stars for this one.

Free Music Review: Just plain fun! Hit: 4 StarsWhile most will speak volumes on the historical significance of the sessions from which this set is sourced, I will just say that it is a very fun listen. Songs such as "Odds and Ends," "Yazoo Street Scandal," "Please Mrs. Henry," and "Tiny Montgomery" just put me in a good mood...
...this is not to say however that there is no emotion or soul to this album. "Ain't No More Cane," "Ruben Remus" and "Bessie Smith" are beautiful songs with great melodies.
The contents of this album get 5 stars, but one star was taken off for the fact that both discs fit comfortably on to one, with about 3 or 4 minutes to spare. Ah, Columbia will do anything to make an extra buck.
Free Music Review: Just Because.... Hit: 5 StarsIf you want to know Dylan, this is the place to dwell.
Forget the fight about folkie versus blues rocker, born again or orthodox Jew,opportunist or purist...it makes no difference when this music sinks in.
When Dylan and the Band got together and created this music it changed musical history.
Books are written on these recordings impact, bootlegers command 100 dollars for the complete set.
This is serious stuff indeed..there is nothing to say except the remaining songs must find expression in a legit box release given the treatment like the new Band box which looks very impressive.
Free Music Review: Excellent music from excellent musicians Hit: 5 StarsI've enjoyed the Basement Tapes. I love the Band and have missed their music. I saw Bob Dylan in concert a few weeks ago, and I hear hints of his current sound in these cuts. What's not to love!
Free Music Review: Dissapointing Hit: 2 StarsI love Bob Dylan and I Love The Band. I was extremly surprised to hear how poor this colaboration of the two was. With a few exceptions, The only good tracks on this album are already the bonus tracks on the much better Band albums "THe Band" and "Music From Big pink." If you are considering this album I suggest those albums and then the album dylan did with the Band called "Planet Waves." This album is only appropraite for extreme Dylan fans who need this album to fill out their collection. For others I am sorry to say this album doesn't cut it and should never have been released.
Hopefully I will save you 20$
