Free Music Notes for Blonde on BlondeFree Music Review: Easily one of the 10 most important albums of the 1960's Hit: 5 Stars'Blond on Blond' is one of those pivotal albums which defines the times, and for which any ordinary rating is simply irrelevant. The album marks the apotheosis of Dylan's electric rock poetry period begun on 'Another Side of Bob Dylan' and broadened in 'Highway 61 Revisited'. His next album, 'John Wesley Harding', 18 months later, is a dramatic change in style, following his motorcycle accident.
While many of Dylan's songs from other albums are well known, looking down the list of these 14 titles brings back memories on virtually every title. And, for those like 'Obviously 5 Believers' which may not be immediately recognizable, the mystery disappears as soon as you hear the song.
Many other reviews have gone into the details of the material. I simply wish to bear witness, as someone who lived through the era in which this album was released, that this album stands with 'Sargeant Pepper's Lonely Heart Club Band' and 'Tommy' as one of the great albums of the greatest era in popular music.
Free Music Review: The best there is - essential folk-rock! BUY IT! Hit: 5 StarsIf you haven't heard this album, you are doing yourself a horrible disservice. Bob Dylan is a master songwriter, and even if you don't like the instrumentation of a song (though with Bob that's a rarity) you're guaranteed to be intrigued by the lyrics. Every song on this CD is a gem, along with most of his other albums. The best part of this album, as opposed to some of his others (especially "The Times They Are A-Changin'") is that it's pretty easily accessible. By that I mean most of its songs are instantly catchy and memorable. This is definitely one of those CDs that, once you've heard it, you couldn't possibly live without it. Absolutely recommended.
Highlights include:
the entire album!
Free Music Review: Huge Collection Of Musical Treasures Hit: 5 StarsThe man, Bob Dylan served up some terrific songs in his lenghty, third-best album. Opening with the pounding glory of Rainy Day Women and moving on to somne of his best cuts like Visions Of Johanna and I Want You. Some over-looked classics also lie here, like Stuck Inside Of Mobile With The Memphis Blues Again and Lepord Skin Pill Box Hat. Also, Absolutley Sweet Marie seems like it could have been a #1 hit, I wonder what happend. The album closes with the 11:33 Sad Eyed Lady Of The Lowlands, one of his best.
This is a great record, pick it up.
Free Music Review: B-O-B 3-4-2-1 Hit: 5 StarsI had it taped from an LP back in 1988 from a record store [Blind Faith in JaanBazaar, Calcutta] and the guy who taped it, did it in the wrong order: side 3-4-2-1 .. funny, for the longest time I thought that was THE order of the songs.
Till this date when I listen to B-O-B [! never realized that one before!!], I always expect a different order.
I would not go into great details as to the music or the lyrics, as copious amounts have been shared already.
Great music, great words .. one of the best ever and right up there with the best double albums of all time: White/Exile/Phys Graf .. you name it.
Free Music Review: Genius or Not, This Man Rocks... Hit: 5 Stars This is truly a work of poetic art, regardless of whether Dylan's musical skill in itself demonstrates genius (which pop music generally does not, that's why for a longtime I only listened to 'real' music, i.e., classical music...) is debatable. I do believe that Bob Dylan is one of the greatest American poets since Walt Whitman, which is why some of his lyrics are placed in the Outlaw Bible of American Poetry, the premier poetry collection in the English language of the last fifty years. Bob Dylan rocks, if you want 'complex' music listen to Rachmaninoff, if you want lyrical genius which images linger on in the burned out embers of your mind long after the notes have left your brain, listen to Dylan.
