Free Music Notes for Eternal Licks & Grooves AlbumFree Music Review: Creative and swinging tight orchestra Hit: 5 Stars
I am new to the music of Bob Florence and all I can say is, WOW, what have I been missing. This is one great swinging band. It is so evident hearing this CD, that these guys have been playing together for years. You sure don't get a sound this tight in just a few months. Great musicians. The CD is also recorded beautifuly, though the soloist could have been brought out front a bit more. Magnificent sound. Peter Erskine on drums really drives this group. Quite a drummer and another accomplished musician I was not aware of. I guess these west coast guys just don't get the play here in NYC.
I really dig the way Florence presents the original melody before taking off on his interpretation of the piece. The Basie and Kenton pieces are really very well done, as is Invitation, always one of my favorite compositions.
Now I guess I have to listen to samples on Amazon of a few more of Bob Florence's CD's that I must buy and add to my collection. A real outstanding leader and arranger I must say.
Yeah, you just got to love this music!
One thing is for sure, kids today just don't know what they are missing, but I guess if they don't get the exposure to great jazz like this, they will never get to know it even exist. A shame isn't it.
