Free Music Notes for Live at the Roxy, Hollywood, California, May 26, 1976 - The Complete ConcertFree Music Review: Very good, but not as consistently inspired as 'Babylon' & 'Live' Hit: 3 Stars
There's a lot to like about this set but, as a whole, it falls flat compared to the other BMW live releases. Smoldering versions of "Want More", "Roots, Rock, Reggae" and the closing encore medley are reason enough to purchase this set. Superior versions of the other songs can be found elsewhere.
The show was originally broadcast on KWEST-FM in Los Angeles, I believe and was thus professionally mixed. This may have been played an integral role in its candidacy for release. Other commonly circulated tapes, such as The Quiet Knight Club show from 1975 or the Oakland Coliseum show from 1979 would have been better choices.
Free Music Review: (Actually 3 1/2 Stars) A Good Album 3 Stars
'Live' & 'Babylon By Bus" are GREAT albums (Unlimited Stars!)!! on 'Babylon By Bus' The Man and the band ARE ON FIRE!!! and what can i say about 'Live', you never forget your 1st love. disc 2 of the roxy set is o.k. but it doesn't compare to the previous releases. Also better in my sometimes
more humble opinion is disc 2 of the 'Exodus Delux Edition',songs 1-5 are live, starting w/ 'The Heathen' ,good, then breaking into a medley
'Crazy Baldhead/Running Away' which is....just listen to it. 'Live At The Roxy' is a good album but not the best of the 3(or 4?)('Live At Santa Cruz'?) anyway, turn up the bass & enjoy. p.
Free Music Review: Lackluster at Best Hit: 3 Stars
I'm a huge fan of Bob's music and own his entire catalogue, that said, please beware that this whole show is SLOW. Real slow. Not sure if Bob was too lifted here or what but if you're looking for a great live album, try "Babylon by Bus" or "Live" before going for the Roxy show.
