Free Music Review: Hoo Haa ! Bob Marley's Best Live Album Ever!
Hit: 5 Stars

Live at the Roxy is without question the best "live" album the great man ever produced. This is a tour de force - a wonderfully intimate experience with great audience particpation (lots of yelps and yeahs) - brilliantly recorded - and some of the most intense singing - moaning and groaning - from the dreadlocked guru ever caught on tape. Soul meets Reggae meets Funk. His earlier live albums lack this intimacy, and are recorded in much larger venues which make those albums much less vibrant for me.

I am also delighted that many of these live tracks are from Rastaman Vibration and Burning and Looting and Catch a Fire (earlier albums) which are less well known that some of his later work. The band is hot and the I threes are pure magic. Believe me when I tell you this is a hidden gem - a must have. What a pity it was never filmed. Buy it now.

Free Music Review: Brilliant, It Gets No Better
Hit: 5 Stars

Other than some live Ben Harper, nothing comes even close to comparing to the musical ability, songwriting genius, and mood-defining power of Bob Marley. This CD is special, with its powerful renditions of "No Woman, No Cry" and "Get Up, Stand Up" hitting just the right notes of -- quiet power is the best way to describe it.

Instead of the derivative sounds and lyrics that can be heard today in mainstream music, Marley delivers an arsenal with his words -- by turns, enlightening and moving, but not simply wasteful pretension. Show rather than tell is the mantra given to aspiring authors, and Marley needs not that lesson.

The acoustics on the CD are also marvelous. Nothing stands in the way of the naked strength of Marley's words and his audience, both in person and on your compact disc. A must have.

Free Music Review: So now you get, what you want, ah do you want more????
Hit: 5 Stars

This is, without any doubt what-so-ever, one of THEE best musical acts to have ever had the honor to be etched in infinite physical history. The enire listening experience very well proves that Bob Marley is without any doubt thee GREATEST musical, prophical, and revolutionary figure of our time. It is with my greatest of honor to be here to introduce you to a man of such great accomplishments and such great musical power, that I am just about overwhelmed while writing this review. Every time I here the Honorable Robert Nesta Marley perform his great acts live, I am overcomed with such great joy and spiritual uprising, I find myself in a powerful and positive trance like no other. I do hope you feel the same way too, for it is truly a beautiful act for which this man has accomplished. PEACE and JAH RASTAR!

Free Music Review: Best live Marley, also get "Exodus" Deluxe Ed., and "Talkin' Blues"; "Babylon By Bus" is overrated.
Hit: 5 Stars

I never liked the "stadium" sound of "Babylon By Bus" ("highly" recommended by a friend... I won't mention that his name is James and he plays a mean guitar, however, yes, YOU, J.C. in NorCal! See you on the slopes! But I don't ski... so, nevermind.)

Anyway, if you want the best live Bob, bypass "Babylon..." (generally good advice anyway, but I digress...) and go straight for the 2 CD "Live at the Roxy", and then "Live!", "Exodus" (Deluxe Edition), and perhaps "Talkin' Blues", if you're REALLY into it. I also highly recommend, perhaps one of the greatest all-time live concert DVDs EVER: "Live at Santa Monica"! It's wonderful. BTW: Anyone seen "Live at the Rainbow '77" yet? Anyway, the Santa Monica stuff is earlier and very potent, as is "Live at the Roxy". Jah Live, INDEED!

Free Music Review: Best live album ever!
Hit: 5 Stars

When I look at my music collection in its entirety, my favorite albums tend to be the live ones, recorded at small halls or large arenas (think DMB, Zeppelin, U2, Frampton, Stones, Doors, etc). There is something unique, exhilarating, and almost unattainable about capturing the greatness mixed with spontaneity of live music. Live at the Roxy is my all time favorite live album. Incredibly good sound quality, just the right volume of crowd interaction, and Marley's poetic, lyrical leadership at the peak of his grasp of the power of his message and sound all combine to make this concert a priceless jewel. If you're like me, you'll put this double cd set in your car stereo and leave it in there for weeks. Makes you want to grow dreads and join the cause.
