Free Music Notes for Legend: The Best Of Bob Marley And The Wailers (New Packaging)Free Music Review: Bob Marley- Legend: The Best of Bob Marley and the Wailers Hit: 5 Stars
Bob Marley was long before my time, he died when I was one week old, but that really does not matter, his music is classic and timeless. This was the first Reggae CD I had ever bought and I think it will probably be the best one I ever get. Fourteen tracks total "Legend" has a nice mix of songs, love songs, songs about poltics and and oppression, and songs about empoyerment. "No Woman No Cry" really stands out for me as one of the nicest tracks on the album, a political song about oppression with a powerful chorus that makes you sing along, with a good message which is something along lines of never give up, keep your faith, keep your hope. "Three Little Birds" has a similar message, and is a melodic feel good song. "Buffalo Soldier" is a song about slavery and black men fighting for American Independence", Bob Marley is dropping some history knowledge on this one, songs got a really catchy sound. "Get Up Stand Up" uses a heavy bass groove, and is a fast paced track that is about fighting oppression. "Stir it up" is a relaxed slow love track, which has nice grooves and rhythm."One Love" combines piano and guitar, and is a positive feel good song about loving the lord, loving each other. "I Shot the Sheriff" is a powerful song about oppression in Jamaica, first heard this song remixed by Warren G, like this original alot more. "Redemption Song" is a sad and wonderful song, about fighting for freedom, Marley uses Acoustic Guitar, and though the song has a sad sound, its deep and moving. "Exodus" uses organ, continous guitar rifts, and horns, and is a fast paced track. "Jamming" is a great track to close off the album, a relaxed track with a laid back groovy sound too it. "Bob Marley's "Legend" is an excellent album, and if you are to buy just one Reggae album get this one.
Free Music Review: Singing from his soul Hit: 5 Stars
Having lived in Zimbabwe during the apartheid era I can definitively say that Bob Marley and the Wailers music meant a great deal to a great many of us non-whites because it speaks directly and universally about social justice to people who are oppressed or involved in a struggle for freedom. Bob Marley and the Wailers injected so much passion and feeling into their writing and singing and I think that is why after all this time their music is still so loved. Their strong belief in God also comes through in the many oblique and direct references in various songs to Jah and the Book (bible).
The "Redemption Song" in which they sing about slavery has to be the most beautiful and heartfelt song on this album with awesome lyrics.
"Emancipate yourselves from mental slavery,
None but ourselves can free our minds,
Have no fear for atomic energy,
For none of them can stop the times,
How long shall they kill our prophets,
While we stand aside and look,
Some say it's just a part of it,
We've got to fulfill the Book"
Bob Marley and the Wailers music contain no cussing or explicit lyrics as they express themselves just beautifully without them. I have owned this album (and others) in various forms (vinyl, cassette, cd) since it was first released. If you are looking for music with depth of meaning, for catchy songs that will have you up and dancing, for beautiful ballads, then buy some of Bob Marley and the Wailers' music. Definitely try Legend, Exodus, Natty Dread, Survival, Catch a Fire and Uprising even if you get nothing else. I'm dating myself here but almost 30 years after I first heard their music I still love it and can still be moved by it.

Free Music Review: If you are to buy just one Reggae album get this one. Hit: 5 Stars
This album is aptly named; Bob Marley's music has touched the world, and this compilation does even more justice to his brilliance than the original release of "Legend" -- better, crisper sound and "Exodus," in its complete form. There was never an excuse for having the shorter version of this great song on this album and it always took away from the album for me but now Legend is the perfect album. This reissue has improved and the sound is great, all the lyrics and a good essay on Bob, and the 2 new "Bonus" tracks is a great addition to this package. "Exodus" is the best reason to toss your old "Legend" aside.
Everyone knows all the great songs from this great man. With sweet songs like "Is This Love, "No Woman, No Cry" (a recording of the famous live performance), and the empowering "Get Up Stand Up." There is a song for nearly any mood. It seems that EVERYONE, whether they're into hip-hop or rock or country can dig Bob Marley. Not many artists can do what he had done. That being said, this album is just about the most versatile disc conceivable. Feeling a little low - just play "Three Little Birds" or "Is This Love?" Need some music to get your party started? play the infectious "Jamming" and "Could You Be Loved" will do the trick. Looking to chill out with your significant other? "Waiting in Vain" (just about the most beautiful song ever conceived) or "Stir It Up" will set the mood straight.
Most of the tracks on this album are songs that were paramount for Bob Marley and the Wailers' career in the seventies and eighties. Bob Marley's "Legend" is an excellent album, definitely a must have.
Free Music Review: Truly a Legend Hit: 5 Stars
Obviously if you are a raggae fan you own stuff by Bob Marley, so this review is aimed at those who have yet to "get into" raggae music. For people like me, who just wander into a store and hope for the best, you couldn't pick better.
I usually listen to vastly different music than this, mostly in the hard rock/metal fields, but being a curious sort I decided about a year ago that I wanted to hear a little raggae. With that in mind, I wandered into a store and saw Legend. "Hey, I've heard of Bob Marley", and I happily took it home to see what this was all about.
AMAZING!!!
It doesn't seem to matter what kind of mood I'm in, what kind of music I just had on, or what I'm doing, this CD is always great. Every single song is worth listening to over and over and over, as I have done. Something about Bob Marley's music is able to step inside of you, so you don't just hear it with your ears, but your heart as well. I guess that's why he is a legend.
Songs like "Three Little Birds", "One Love", "Redemption Song", "Could You Be Loved", and so many others on this CD are simply amazing, worth owning if you like just about any kind of music at all. Also, "No Woman, No Cry" is a phenominal ballad, performed live in this collection, which has become one of my top 5 favorite songs in any genre.
In short, if you are looking for a place to start exploring the waters of raggae, its HERE.
