Free Music Notes for Legend: The Best Of Bob Marley And The Wailers (New Packaging)

Free Music Review: Jamaican Reggae Party
Hit: 5 Stars

Here is the least expensive trip to Jamaica that anyone can buy. This CD is one of the *best* Caribbean vacations at a low, low price.

The music is mellow and breezy ... the lyrics are simple, but profound. This CD encompasses the *best* and most celebrated songs of this world-famous group from the years 1973 to 1980. Bob Marley & the Wailers catapulted reggae music onto the world charts and there it remains for all time. We are richer for this experience. "No woman no cry" and "Three little birds" were played in Nov. 2002 by a Carribean band on the cruise I took to the Western Carribean. They are classics that I have enjoyed from the past and now, *even* more so with the additional memories of my vacation. "Buffalo Soldier" and "I Shot the Sheriff" are classics forever etched in my mind from frequent air-time, when played on the radio during their hey days ... Other favorites are "Get Up Stand Up", "One Love/People Get Ready" and "Stir It Up". If you want to feel relaxed, care-free, and mellow buy this CD. "Eiree mon" as they say in Jamaica! Go buy it and enjoy!!! Erika Borsos (erikab93)

Free Music Review: Funky Jammin' Rastaferian Love
Hit: 5 Stars

This is it, folks! The heart and soul of all things raggae.
Bob Marley is the single biggest influence on everything from raggae to punk to ska. Everyone from the Clash, the Ramones, Rancid, U2, Johnny Cash, even Metallica, has cited Bob Marley as an influence on their music.
Bob's music is especially remarkable because he managed to have the most positive of messages in all his songs in a very negative world. Whether that had anything to do with the fact that he was a notorious pot head isn't important. Marley was a devout Rastaferian, to such an extent that when informed he had cancer in one of his toes, he let nature take its hold without medical attension, becuase his religion wished it so.
His personal beliefs aside, Marley and the Wailers had made raggae univerally popular for the first time.
Legend perfectly sums up an incredable career, including all the songs nobody will ever forget. The new songs and packaging is all well and fine, the remastered version isn't really any different from the other one, but it's a good disc anyway, by far the best Marley comp out there. Amazing!

Free Music Review: Different shades of Bob
Hit: 5 Stars

This is a great record. Bob's body of work is extensive so obviously not everyone's favorites can be included and we must understand that. There are many that I would have added.

Under some circumstances I would agree that it seems thrown together but in other respects that too is a representation of Bob. He was a lover and a fighter (activist) all at once. How can you possibly separate the two? If you dont have love, if you care for nothing, then what are you fighting for?

Someone suggested that this CD (or maybe his music) was gloomy and bitter. It pains me to read this because this person does not know anything about reggae, Jamaica, our language or our culture. This CD is overflowing with love. Romantic love: I listen to the seemingly simplistic metaphors and they stir great emotions in me. There is great love for family for understanding that the family helps us through. There is love for life. Love for the struggle that we as Jamaicans, as humans must endure.

Dont let this be your only Bob Marley experience, but if you're a novice its a good place to start.

Free Music Review: The Cornerstone of ANY Worthwhile CD Collection!!
Hit: 5 Stars

If someone were just starting to build a CD collection or asking me which disc they should get that they don't have, this is the first one that would spring to mind. It seems that EVERYONE, whether they're into hip-hop or rock or country can dig Bob Marley. How many other artists can you say that about? That said, this CD is just about the most versatile disc conceivable. Feeling a little low - just play "Three Little Birds" or "Is This Love?" Need some music to get your party started? "Jamming" and "Could You Be Loved" will do the trick. Looking to chill out with your significant other? "Waiting in Vain" (just about the most beautiful song ever conceived) or "Stir It Up" will set the mood. It wouldn't surprise me if they did a study that showed that people that listen to this CD were miraculously cured of their illnesses!! It's that powerful!! This is the CD that I think one day will pass the Eagles' Greatest Hits as the biggest selling CD in history, since there is nothing that can slow this down.

Free Music Review: Legendary Anthology
Hit: 5 Stars

The Bob Marley collection "Legend" does indeed make its case for Marley as a regge legend. More than any other artist, he helped bring regge music to mainstream audiences with his excellent songwriting and musicianship. He could be political without sounding preachy, and also wrote some of the sweetest love songs of any musical genre. Marley was popularized in America, of course, when Eric Clapton remade his "I Shot the Sheriff." Clapton's version is outstanding, but Marley's is equally so and is the one were the song's subtle political message is more overt.

Other outstanding tracks on the collection include the sweet "Three Little Birds," the ace peace and love song "One Love/People Get Ready," the straight up love songs "Is This Love" and "Stir It Up," the political rant of "Buffalo Soldier," the call to arms "Get Up Stand Up" and the rave-up "Jamming." Even among the lesser well known songs there is not a clunker or misstep in the mix.

Overall, a superior single disc anthology that establishes Bob Marley as one of the most important musicians of his era.
