Free Music Notes for Legend: The Best Of Bob Marley And The Wailers (New Packaging)Free Music Review: One of the greatest albums of all-time! Hit: 5 Stars
Time magazine may have listed Marley's 1977 album, Exodus, as the most influential album ever, but Legend is the top-selling reggae album in history. This is simply a phenomenal record that even non-reggae fans will enjoy. In many ways a greatest hits collection, Legend features Marley's most memorable songs including "One Love," "I Shot the Sherrif," "Buffalo Soldiers," and "No Woman No Cry."
Bob Marley's musical talent and the social commentary of his lyrics made him an international superstar. Unfortunately, he was taken from the world before his time (much like Lennon, Hendrix, and Valens). It's a sad testiment of the times that artists today care solely about the bottom line (money) rather than using music as a medium for spread of ideas and philosophy. Marley was a rare commodity.
This is by far Bob Marley's best album. You will listen to it over and over. This record belongs in a time capsule to preserve for future generations.
Free Music Review: Don't wait in vain: get your copy! Hit: 5 Stars
Greatest Hit albums typically have the same problem: they never satisfy die-hard fans, always leaving out the anthem some of them felt that must have made it to the compilation of their idol's best works. So, how can this Bob Marley greatest hits album have everyone so happy. The answer is simple: in spite of Bob's vast discography and overabundance of great material to choose from, the curators of this selection seem to not have been cheap about it and actually threw in here the absolute best material Bob Marley ever recorded, including the best takes (some of them live) of some of his hits available in multiple versions.
So, whether you are new to Marley's discography and want a broad exposure to it or you want to have a handy album to throw into your player for the trip to the beach or your favorite chillout spot, follow Bob's advice and don't wait in vain. Go get your copy of "Legend" so that your reggae needs may be well served.
Free Music Review: The Best of Marley Hit: 5 Stars
Many reviews have pointed out the huge significance and influence of Bob Marley's music. I just want to say that even though I have many CDs of his wonderful music, including interesting collections of early songs, if I had to keep just one CD, it would be Legend.
Marley even did an album in an earlier style, called Rock Steady, with one of his greatest songs: "Caution." Collections of earlier music include some of Marley and the Wailer's covers of soul classics which are excellent.
However, Legends clearly has his greatest songs including "Three Little Birds," "Exodus," and many others which other reviewers have elucidated quite well.
I was surprised that the others did not emphasize my all-time favorite Marley song: "No woman, no cry." The live version in Legends is perfection in music. To sum it up, anyone who is at all interested in Reggae music must have this CD.
Free Music Review: A Legend Hit: 5 Stars
This CD is aptly named; Bob Marley's music has touched the world, and this compilation does even more justice to his brilliance than the original release of "Legend" -- better, crisper sound and "Exodus," in its complete form. With sweet songs like "Is This Love, "No Woman, No Cry" (a recording of the famous live performance), the empowering "Get Up Stand Up," and the infectious "Jamming," there is a song for nearly any mood.I have taken this CD with me everywhere: to the store, on short trips, and on trips overseas. Whether you're on an airplane or sitting at home, whether you're happy or depressed, chances are one of these songs will speak to you. The old "Legend" was great, but this reissue is better. The CD contains a nice mix of his songs, and it will no doubt remain a popular and well-respected album.
Free Music Review: Up from Trenchtown Hit: 5 Stars
LEGEND is the splendid, aptly-named posthumous anthology of Bob Marley's most well-known works. The must-own reggae recording for those of us who know next to nothing about reggae, LEGEND showcases such songs as "Get Up Stand Up," "Exodus," and "Jammin'," among so many others. If you don't recognize the titles you WILL recognize the songs. If you recognize the songs, then get the message.
The universatility of Marley's reggae is demonstrated by this simple vignette: Having loaded the CD into my convertible's disc player, I was stopped at a light near the local High School when I happened to look left and look right. The drivers of both cars were keeping time to "Buffalo Soldiers," and a group of teenagers crossing the street started dancing in the crosswalk. This CD had united a score of utter strangers. If Marley is considered a Rastafari prophet, I can see why!
