Free Music Notes for SurvivalFree Music Review: wake up and live! Hit: 5 Stars
This album was released in 1979, and the most amazing thing about it is how the percussion instruments stand out. On no other Bob Marley and the Wailers album do the percussion instruments stand out so well, they almost take a lead part themselves. This can be attributed to the increasing technology in the recording industry possibly, or maybe a change in musical style for the Wailers. The band is still as good as ever and rhythms here on Survival will prove it, the basslines and other musical harmonies will pleasantly ring throughout your head and bring a smile to your face. This album promotes African unity, and African freedom and is quite possibly the most militant of the entire Bob Marley and the Wailers catalog. All the songs have lyrics that will stick in your head for years to come, and if you are looking for a place to start your reggae or music collection, Survival is a great place to start.
Free Music Review: Great 'new' Bob Marley Hit: 5 Stars
Imagine if we could get a cd full of new Bob Marley songs. Well, this is about as close as we're going to get. Most of the songs here haven't been heard by the general public or even most casual fans of Bob Marley. It's a shame and at the same time a blessing.
For as great as Exodus is it does get old hearing the same Marley songs over and over.
But are these songs any good? Yes!! They all fit together nicely and the sound is top notch, since this is one of Marley's latter releases. The remastering is also outstanding - something we've seen with all the Bob Marley remasters.
So, if you want a somewhat new Marley experience and you haven't heard Survival then you're in for a real treat.
Free Music Review: My second favorite Marley LP Hit: 5 Stars
This LP is probably tied in first place with my other favorite LP, "UPrising". My all time favorite Marley song is "Could You Be Loved" from the Uprising LP. It was the song that I first heard on the radio that made me turn to reggae as an alternative to disco/pop at the time. From there, I became a total reggae head.
My love of roots reggae is still as strong today and this album is still at the top of my list, right under "Uprising". There isn't a bad song on it. I still have my original vinyl recording and play it from time to time.
This is a must have recording for anyone who is getting into roots reggae. Its a true classic.
Free Music Review: the songs are outstanding Hit: 5 Stars
From his last three albums this one is definetly his best while Exodus and kaya where made to receive a new audience Survival is actually a trown back to the begin of his island career in 1972 with Catch a fire or even earlier the lee perry days the songs are outstanding "So much trouble in the world" was the best choice for an album opener "Zimbabwe" a good follow up and the rest stand like a rock. actually the best thing of this album is not Marley's great voice but the fantastic drums of charlton barret. the sleeve also looks good it immidiatly says that this is a roots album and when you listen you certainly will agree
Free Music Review: A fantastic album Hit: 5 Stars
This is one of the best albums ever and a must have for any BM&TW fan! Lyrics are very deep, meaningful and beautiful, and the music is warm and mellow. "So much trouble in the world", "Zimbabwe", "Africa Unite", "Survival", and "One drop" are standouts, but each track is absolutely fabulous. The album is all about Africa, but I think anyone will find something very personal in the lyrics. I'm very eclectic when it comes to music, and I listen to various genres (alternative, rock, hard rock, reggae, progressive, trip-hop, gothic, blues, jazz), and this is one of my top 5 albums of all times!
