Free Music Notes for Darin at the CopaFree Music Review: Excellent! Hit: 5 Stars
"Bobby Darin's premiere at the Copa went down in the Copacabana history books ad one of the standouts. Darin received to many wires of congrats that Western Union told him "you hold the record for telegrams in one night" - Walter Winchell, New York Mirror.
This statement appears on the back of lp "Darin At The Copa", and it can not get any better then that. Darin sings lively versons of his hit songs : Mack The Knife, That's All and Some of these days, along with excellent versions of Clementine and Dream Lover.
This CD shows the wide range of talent that Darin had extending far beyond singing. He's comedic, charming, and obviously a pleasure giver to those who attended his premeire at the Copacabana. I highly recommend this CD to anyone, Bobby Darin fan or not. Some say that this is not Darin at his best but in my opinion, it does not get much better than this.
Free Music Review: Right Up There with no less than "Ella in Berlin" Hit: 5 Stars
I completely forgot this album existed. It was an alltime favorite in high school when it came out, and I'm sure I drove my family wild playing it over and over. Today, I stumbled on it quite by accident, had a real emotional jolt, and bought it. I put it on as soon as I came in, and it's as good and maybe better than I remembered it. This is a great male vocalist and a consumate club performer at the peak of his powers. Every cut here works, from standards like (I agree with the other reviewers here especially) gorgeous "Love for Sale," to songs that were pop favorites at the time, and even the live "Mack the Knife" is the equal of the studio version. Darin's humor, which feels completely spontaneous, and I found myself laughing out loud repeatedly. All in all, a joyful affair, and the happiest of rediscoveries!
Free Music Review: My Favorite Darin CD Hit: 5 Stars
I've owned this CD for months and still listen to it daily. It's upbeat, swinging music. Gets everybody into a great mood at a get together. Darin is passionate, brazen, slick, cool, and funny all at the same time. What a talented man. Dig the way he plays the vibraphone (a la Red Norvo) on one cut. His live version of "Love For Sale" is the best I have ever heard (and I have the same song done by Harry Connick, Anita O'Day, & Ella----pretty tough competition!). Take it from someone that owns 4 Bobby Darin albums and the box set...this captures the essence of a great performer. Possibly the best CD I own.

Free Music Review: A MUST OWN CD! Hit: 5 Stars
If you were stranded on a bleak desert island with enough food to survive (you need that to listen to music)and a CD player with batteries this would be THE CD to have. I'm 50 and remember Bobby Darin from when I was a kid, and remember his untimely death in the 70s. I bought this CD based on Amazon reviews -- and it completely blew me away. The brassy orchestrations are super, the arrangements are in a timeless "Vegas" style, and his vocals are among the best I've ever heard. The sound is brassy, lively -- and the CD is the best CD I own. Darin was indeed celebrated, but his genius and awesome talent are still underappreciated (hopefully they will do a tv movie on him that'll expose him to new audiences).
Free Music Review: Darin at the Copa Hit: 5 Stars
The first and, I suspect, the most commercially successful of all the "At the Copa" albums released in the early 60's.
It reveals a cock-sure Darin, all of 23, facing and winning over an "adult" (tee-hee!) audience not used to such brashness.
Perhaps he was brash, but he wore it well. On others far less talented, it would have spelled d-o-o-m!
I have always loved this man (as an entertainer, silly!) and even though I have the CD version of this album, I have to this day kept the original LP.
They will never make 'em like that again!
If you purchase but one live album, make it this one!!
