Free Music Notes for Darin at the CopaFree Music Review: The best live music of Bobby Darin Hit: 5 Stars
A great choice. this cd shows us why Frank Sinatra was so jealous of the young crooner, Bobby. No one sings like Bobby!

Great cd; wonderful that his performances were preserved because his talent is sorely missed.

Free Music Review: Daring Darin Hit: 4 Stars
In a time of Fabian and Avalon, Bobby Vee and Tommy Sands, Bobby Darin exploded through that bubble-gum morass with the style of Sinatra, the showmanship of Sammy Davis Jr., the impishness of Dean Martin and the social instincts of the activist sixties. He was showbiz, to be sure, but he was also artist. Listen to his reading of "I Have Dreamed" and try not to get annoyed at the woman laughing and the man talking in the background. (One didn't go to the Copa for artistry, I guess). Early on in the set, he segues into his mega-hit, "Mack the Knife", with a great tease line that is almost lost in the rattling laughter of Joe. E. Ross ("Car 54 . . . "). But Darin nimbly recovers the moment with a smart nod to his colleague. He was style, he was class, he was artist - and you get a full measure of that as you listen to him at the Copa.
Free Music Review: Worthwhile But Not Darin At His Best Hit: 4 Stars
Bobby Darin may well have been the greatest entertainer since Jolson. He sang, he joked, he did impressions, and he played most instruments. Certainly he was better than Sinatra as the Darin DVD "Mack Is Back" clearly shows. This "Copa" CD however shows Darin earlier in his career, before reaching the top of his game. Even so, the CD clearly demonstrates his relaxed, professional attitude on stage and the fact that he could sing any kind of music; jazz, country, blues, etc, as well as interact with the audience. The Copa CD has a great selection of Darin's work and shows the ease with which he shifts gears from one kind of music to another. This CD is as good as many another entertainer; it is simply not Darin's best...thus my four stars.
