Free Music Notes for For Emma, Forever AgoFree Music Review: Hauntingly beautiful solo debut album Hit: 5 Stars
As one of the likely thousands of folks who stumbled upon this album after "googling" the music from this Season's finale of House, M.D., I can only say that I wish I would have had this amazing disc in my collection months ago. I typically don't enjoy highly inflected vocal performances (Iver sings in a consistant falsetto throughout the entire album) but here it is not obtrusive. The innovative use of sounds, loops, etc, combined with Iver's falsetto don't get in the way at all of delievering a performance that is hauntingly beautiful and melodic. A wonderful solo debut effort!
Free Music Review: Excellent album Hit: 5 Stars
This is an excellent album. His voice (as well as the album in general) is very raw and very powerful. The lyrics of many of the songs are excellent as well. You can't listen to this album and not feel the emotion he conveys through the music. There is nothing out of the ordinary here, no crazy electronic generated sounds, just a guy on his guitar with some great background sax and trumpet in some songs. I love acoustic music and this album is one of my favourites. The melodies are pretty simple but unforgettable. Just an all around great indy album; I highly recommend it.
Free Music Review: Mark Hollis sings for Iron and Wine Hit: 5 Stars
My title pretty much sums this album up...it sounds like a cross between Mark Hollis' voice (Talk Talk)and the music of Iron and Wine. Very nice mixture indeed...Perhaps, just a slight bit more experimentation than Iron and Wine, a synth wash here and an odd, distant pulsing sound there, but overall, a very nice, introspective album that fans of acoustic-based, experimental-folk music should appreciate. While nowhere near as grand in scope, there are moments on this disc that bring to mind Talk Talk's Spirit of Eden. And that, my friends, is a very good thing indeed...
Free Music Review: Great singer/songwriter Hit: 5 Stars
If you're looking for a song on this album that you expect to hear on the popular radio stations 30 times a day, you won't find it. But surprisingly, this is a great thing. Bon Iver's album is unique and timeless. It's very deep and definitely takes you away. It's great sleeping music too, and not in a bad way. This is an album that you don't get tired of hearing over and over. It's an album that you can listen to straight through, which is hard to come by these days. If you're looking for a new fantastic singer/songwriter, you've come to the right place.
Free Music Review: Great indie rock album Hit: 5 Stars
I have to say that I was never really into indie rock until I listed to this cd. For emma, forever ago is very dark, but in a good way and I actually like the lyrics (I've noticed that some of the negative reviews don't like the lyrics). because of this cd I sarted listening to other indie rock bands such as vampire weekend, my morning jacket, and arcade fire. I wish more people would listen to this fantastic cd because it is a classic and I can now see why so many online magazines gave this cd perfect reviews. I can't wait to hear more from Bon Iver.
