Free Music Notes for Crush

Free Music Review: Fun Album!!
Hit: 5 Stars

This album really impressed me. Up tempo and lively. Just about all the songs are worth listening to and most of them are up tempo-Pop type songs! You won't skip any of these songs, so I highly recommend this album.

I will call out my favorites:
Thank You For Loving Me
My favorite all-time Bon Jovi song. Powerful, emotional ballad.

It's My Life
The big radio hit. Rocking/pick me up song.

Next 100 years/Just Older/Save The World
These songs just make me feel good! Great lyrics, good inspiration, great sound!

Free Music Review: Bon Jovi no longer hide that they are trend-hoppers
Hit: 2 Stars

I don't even want to remember how big of a disappointment this disc was when I got it the same day it came out. Let's a have a brief "memory re-capping" before going into the details of Crush.

1992 - Bon Jovi releases the highly critical Keep the Faith album. The album is a great come-back disc since Sambora and Jon Bon Jovi overcome their egos and agree to put out great rock album. It rules just like their 80's catalog. Success is achieved again.

1994 - The first ever best of collection titled Crossroad comes out featuring new power ballad "Always" which rocks hard and gives them tons of airplay. However, this is just the beginning of their downfall, releasing a million other compilation discs, and re-re-re-recorded live albums in the next ten coming years!

1995 - With the grunge scene hitting hard and dominating the charts, Jon Bon Jovi and Sambora join forces and agree that the best way to face the Nirvana/Pearl Jam trend is to release an all-love-song dominated disc (save for the title track). And it works, to a certain extent at least. These Days proves to be a satisfying record overall, but both the fans and particularly Jon Bon Jovi himself realise that their musical direction isn't going to take them anywhere far anymore. They've run out of interesting ideas and the motives to compose honest, sincere rock tunes, so they capitalize on ballads. In the meantime, Jon focuses on taking cheap shots at horrible movies displaying his embarrassing talents as an "actor". Sambora releases his sophomore album which, in comparison to Stranger in This Town, flops, and Jon does the Destination Anywhere "pop" record, which also fails miserably.

So with the grunge scene receding, they release, Crush, their first album in the last five years. The result is a poorly written, pop-flavoured, weak record with little to no emphasis on Sambora's guitar playing (not that Sambora cares anyway) and bringing their newly found 'image' to the fore. The album features their new 'looks' in more than ten pics. What's worse is, you open the booklet inside the CD case only to find more 'artsy' pics, mostly of Jon, and his 'gang'. No lyrics (cause Jon knows better than all of us that he can't even pen love songs anymore), no liner notes, no nothing. It's horrible packaging. Sadly, the music, while getting them under the spotlight with the POP anthem "It's My Life" (anyone who thinks this is a rock tune is an idiot!), isn't any better either. Even the "Thank You for Loving Me" ballad has no lasting effect as the band's previous ballads, i.e. "Always", "In These Arms", "Bed of Roses". Point being, Crush is just a lame attempt on their part to cash in on it when they can, just before another grunge/nu-metal scene comes and blows them away. The music presented on this disc contains no hooks let alone rocking guitar melodies, no catchy or hummable vocal harmonies as the band's previous works, no lyrics that need to be read (hence they are left out of the booklet), no powerful drumming by Tico. It's just a pop-oriented record using guitars to look cool. The songs are shorter, less structured, and have no momentum. Therefore, no matter how hard Bon Jovi, Sambora, Torres, Bryan or McDonald try, it's all in vain. These Days was the nail in their coffin. Bon Jovi post-1995 sucks. I truly feel sorry for all those teenagers who fell in love with this band upon seeing the video of "It's My Life" and picking up their entire back catalog on a whim. They think they are fans, when in fact they're just trend-followers of a trend-hopping sell-out band.

Free Music Review: Beyond the Hairspray.........
Hit: 3 Stars

When Bon Jovi cuts loose on "Crush" they produce some of the best music they have ever created. The opener "My Life" simply rocks, and has such a powerful chorus you can't help but sing along. The second song "Say It Isn't So" is a nice blend of the classic Bon Jovi sound mixed with elements of modern rock that comes off really well, another toe-taper. The sixth song on the disk is really great, "Just Older" shows you how the band's matured and is set to a killer Richie Sambora guitar track. Again the chorus of "Just Older" was just made for cranking up and singing along with. "Captain Crash and the Beauty Queen from Mars" is a really cool song that kind of blends the Bon Jovi sound with 70's pop lyrics, and it's a wierd combination the really rocks. The last song on the disk "One More Night" is a Hair-Metal anthem that would have fit in perfectly on "Slippery When Wet". This is the music that brought Bon Jovi to the dance, and "One More Night" shows that, though they might be older, they can still crank out the jams. Unfortunately for "Crush" the rest of the album is made up of ballads that just don't compare to previous releases. "Two Story Town" and "Next 100 Years" are bland, there really is nothing that stands out about either songs. If you like Bon Jovi for the harder edge, you will like "Crush" for the 5 songs listed above. If you want the ballads, you may still like "Crush" by don't expect songs on par with "Die For You" or "Silent Night".

Free Music Review: A pretty good BonJovi album.
Hit: 4 Stars

This album by BonJovi is a pretty good one. It's deffinetly not the greatest one, but I think it deserves some credit. IT has soem pretty good songs. I will rate all the songs on a scale of 1-10.

It's My Life- 7/10 A pretty good rock song, and a fan favorite, but WAAAAAY overplayed.

Say It Isn't So- 8/10 A verry good song. I just think that this song can be sort of boring in some parts.

Thank You For Loving Me- 7/10 A pretty good ballad, but I personaly liek BonJovi's older ballads like I'll Be There For You better.

Two Story Town- 9/10 I personaly thought this one was REALLY good! It's not one of their biggest fan favorites, but hey, I really liked it.

Next 100 Years- 9/10 Another REALLY good song that I'm suprised wasn't bigger. It's just a really good catchy song!

Just Older- 9/10 This song is consired the anthem of the album. I liked it alot, it's a real good rock song, got a real good chorus, but I liked Next 100 Years and Captain Crash better.

Mystery Train- 7/10 A pretty good song, but can get kind of boring at times. A good soft rock song, but I like BonJovi's older ones better, like Dry County. Still a really good song!

Save the World- 7/10 A pretty good song. I dunno, there's just something about it I don't like too much....

Captain Crash- 10/10 Best song on the album!!!! Arguably my favorite Bon Jovi song. It has a really good chorus, good verses, and a real catchy guitar riff.

She's a Mystery- 4/10 Alas, after the best comes the worst...I don't like this song. IF you appreciate boring, monotome, backstreet boy style songs, this is for you though.

I Got the Girl- 10/10 Another real good song, catchy guitars, great chorus, I don't find anything wrong with this one!

One Wild Night- 8/10 Although the start may sound strange, this is a very good rock song. Good choruses, just lacks a certain punch some other BonJovi songs have...

All in all, a really good BonJovi album. I would deffinetly reccomend it, but if you want BonJovi's BEST get New Jersey or Slippery When Wet.

Free Music Review: Bon Jovi Enter The New Millennium In Style
Hit: 5 Stars

With CRUSH, Bon Jovi rediscover their party-rock roots and enter the new millennium in style. The opening track and first single, "It's My Life", is a rousing call for self-assertion, and many of the other songs are a balance between the group's early sound (hard pop-rock) and the mature band they've become (an East Jersey version of the Outlaws). When you consider Jon Bon Jovi's belief that the young Australian tourist jailed in Indonesia on drug-smuggling charges was wrongfully convicted, as well as his advocacy of increased funding for law enforcement, it makes this album an essential purchase for both your ears AND your conscience. This is one of the first Bon Jovi albums to get.
