Free Music Review: Yeeee freakin Haaaaa!!!
Hit: 5 Stars

I've heard some great country albums in my life, but this thing ranks at #2 behind any Tanya Tucker album with "Two Sparrows in a Hurricane" on it. That song makes me tear up and get all sad. What amazes me on this CD is Bon Jovi's ability to write their own material, yet sound exactly like all of the manufactured music produced by country artists. It is a big step forward to go from "New Jersey" and "Slippery when wet" to work with musical royalty like Big and Rich. I wish they would have thrown a couple interludes in there with Bill Engvall spewing out some side splitting comedy as only Bill Engvall can. This transformation has been coming for years because most kids grow up rock fans in New Jersey only to hope to cut a country album several years later. They should have done Two Sparrows because it would have made this the greatest country album ever. I'm now at a crossroads though with Bon Jovi. When they tour, do I show up to the show in the rock gear driving the muscle car or do I tear off the sleeves, throw on a John Deere hat and jack my pickup 23 feet off the ground? I'm very simple by nature, so these kind of things confuse me.

I'm so happy Bon Jovi joined the new country movement. The music is very complicated and sophisticated. I hadn't formed a Bon Jovi cover band because I found the high notes in "livin on a prayer" hard to hit, but give me some new country and it's on like Ms. Pac Man. I think they should do an entire album of George Jones covers next. Bravo to Bon Jovi for taking the avenue that will sell some of your albums again. Bon Jovi is now running neck and neck with average.

Hit: 5 Stars

First, Bon Jovi is the hardest working band in show business; with their many tours around the world and many albums. So if they want to try a different route artistically, it is their prerogative and NO ONE has any right to criticize.

That being said, Bon Jovi did try a different route with this album. So anyone that prefers to only hear a hard rocking Bon Jovi, then do not buy this album is all. I would not call this a country album. When Bon Jovi calls it "Nashville influenced" I think they mainly mean the songs tried to tell a story, like most country songs do. The songs are slower paced, but I really do not sense a country sound. Just a slowed down Bon Jovi, telling stories with songs. Pretty cool.

My favorite is "(You Want To) Make A Memory." The first single and just an amazing ballad. I could listen to it over and over. My second favorite is "Seat Next To You" which is also a great ballad. The duet with LeAnn Rhymes, "Till We Ain't Strangers Anymore," is very good. She has such a great voice and it goes well with Jon's voice. I would not call it a great ballad, but still very good. I actually did not really like the duet with Big & Rich, "We Got It Going On." It is a more up tempo, slightly rocking, fun song. So many may like it, but it just did not appeal to me. "Everybody's Broken" has great lyrics and is another great listening ballad. The other songs I would classify as nice listening. So if you want to get an album where you kick back, relax, and just enjoy some somewhat slower paced songs with meaningful lyrics, get this album.

Free Music Review: Bon Jovi takes it to the NEXT LEVEL!
Hit: 5 Stars

Bon Jovi a band that has brought us great (and sometimes just average) music for over 20 years. I had wondered if "Lost Highway" would hit the mark or just miss it. Well, I have listened and I can only W O W ! ! ! ! This CD shows how Bon Jovi has ALWAYS had just a touch of country in their music. Yes, it may have been cranked up to 11 on some of their guitar amps before, but Richie has always had just a touch of the country note bends in his finest solos. The music has always had great musical lines (chord progressions for you musical students) and now that magical touch is just a touch better. Jon's vocals have always had a great earthy edge in them that is completely at home in the country genre.

But I have to tell you: THIS IS NOT YOUR FATHER'S COUNTRY MUSIC. This is country music like Keith Urban, or Kenny Chesney. In other words it is still rock music that Bon Jovi is playing. It's just that now it has the slightest additional touch of country. A better acoustic guitar sound here, a distant steel guitar there, and a couple of great country duets.

But I DARE YOU to tell me that "We Got It Going On" wouldn't work great at a rock concert. Big & Rich brought their ROCK flair to this great party song, Another great party song is the closing number, "I Love This Town"

I can't tell you enough: 1) This is the BEST Bon Jovi CD released in the last 15 years and 2) Forget the label "country" and just put it in your player, baby. This rocks with style and passion.

I can't wait to hear this in concert.

Free Music Review: Bon Jovi Made My Day
Hit: 5 Stars

On my lunch hour, I had to run all over town to find a store that hadn't sold out of Lost Highway. Would have bought it from Amazon but even overnight was too long to wait for this great album. Bon Jovi still rocks with great music and lyrics, and Jon Bon Jovi has one of the great distinct voices in music.

"Make a Memory" is a wonderfully nostalgic piece. "Hello again, it's you and me/kinda always like it used to be/sippin' wine killin' time/Trying to solve life's mysteries/How's your life? It's been a while/God it's good to see you smile." I picture either empty nesters rediscovering each other or first loves reuniting.

Their songs evolve as the guys age to fit perfectly with the kids from the 80s stages of life. It's been a pleasure to have Bon Jovi's music growing up with me from my teens until now, and I just love that they still use "Ain't." Bon Jovi fans will not be disappointed.

Some favorites:

Lost Highway
Till We Ain't Strangers Anymore
Everybody's Broken
One Step Closer
Make a Memory
The Last Night
Any Other Day
Whole Lot of Leavin'
Summertime

Okay, just about every song is great. Didn't care much for We Got it Going On--seems creepy. Quit playing with Big & Rich guys!

Free Music Review: There isn't a single song on this album I don't like
Hit: 5 Stars

It is weird. Most of the time when you hear a good song you pick up the album and, if you are lucky, find one other song you like. If you are lucky. However, Bon Jovi has always been a good gamble to find a couple of songs that I like.

So imagine my surprise when I've been listening to this album the last few hours and there are no songs that I want to skip over. Of course, I've given some extra attention to the hit on this album "Let's Make a Memory," but I've gotten a lot of enjoyment out of all the other songs as well.

Another odd thing is that I'm not a big fan of country and I like this album despite the obvious country influence in most of the songs.

Being a kid in the 80's I still think I like his previous works a little bit better, but a lot of that old rock band made its influence felt in this album and it was like audibly visiting an old friend.

However, whether a kid of the 80's, 90's, or this millennium I think you'll find that you like this album and would highly recommend picking up the entire album as opposed to picking up just the single of the hit songs. You won't regret it.
