Free Music Notes for Lost Highway

Free Music Review: Never mind the country label
Hit: 5 Stars

One day in 1984, I bought Bon Jovi's self titled debut on cassette (yes, cassette, CD's were not out yet). Since that day, I've purchased every CD they have released. I feel every release had something to offer (of course, some more than others).

Fast forward just a few years, Bon Jovi releases what is labeled a country album. I just listened to the whole thing and I would say the country tag is not appropriate. This album is as country as "Slippery When Wet" was a heavy metal album if you know what I mean. Bon Jovi is a straight up rock and roll band. They always have been. Think about it. There are reasons why Bon Jovi lasted through changing musical styles of the past 23 years. The songs are great, Jon's voice is strong, and the band can play. In short, they have talent. And talent is what it's about - not following the next musical trend.

Free Music Review: Don't let the "Country" hype turn you off.
Hit: 5 Stars

This CD is the best they've made since These Days in 1995. The songs are simple, but terrific. As always, the lyrics are great, the band tighter than ever. "Till We Ain't Strangers Anymore," "Seat Next to You" and "I Love This Town" are my favorites so far. As for the band going country, totally untrue. Yes, there are some hints of country in some of the songs, but it's subtle. Bon Jovi has displayed bits of country in a number of songs over the years, and this just continues that trend. Less piano, more steel guitar, but still Bon Jovi!

I've been listening to Bon Jovi for 20 years now and this is an exciting new CD. Have a Nice Day has some strong moments, but this is a stronger effort. Don't let the hype dissuade you from trying this. Great effort from one of the all-time greatest bands.

Free Music Review: Bon Jovi Rocks in a NEW Style
Hit: 5 Stars

Lost Highway is a pleasant surprise. I wasn't sure what to expect after hearing that it had a twist of country sound, but I LOVE it! I bought it at the beginning of the summer and listened to it on my MP3 while traveling all over Europe. It felt good to have a piece of home with me any time I wanted it. Right from the title song, Lost Highway, the rhythm and lyrics grab you. Jon Bon Jovi's voice still has his characteristic strong edge, but crafted in a haunting way to make the songs stick in your mind. Make a Memory, Seat Next to You, Everybody's Broken, and Stranger with Leanne Rimes are unforgettable! We Got It Going On and I Love This Town bring back the sounds of Bon Jovi from the 80's.

I enjoy this CD! It's well rounded, matured yet full of excitement!

Free Music Review: My first Bon Jovi album!
Hit: 5 Stars

This is my first Bon Jovi album that I bought. I've always been a fan of the band ever since I first heard "Livin On A Prayer" when I was really young. I liked their sound and even though it's changed a bit since their hits in the 80's it's still a welcome return from one of my favorite bands. Some have called this album "Bon Jovi goes country." While not entirely true, there is some country aspects to this album such as the duet with LeAnn Rimes and a collaboration with Big And Rich. My favorite song is the single "(You Want To) Make A Memory." It was one of my favorite singles of 2007! Bon Jovi had a lot to prove with this album and I would definately reccomend it to Bon Jovi fans old and new. I look forward to buying more music from this band!

Free Music Review: Bon Jovi Become The Outlaws On This One
Hit: 5 Stars

With LOST HIGHWAY, Bon Jovi drop their Bruce Springsteen pretensions, and instead work, and succeed, at becoming a New Jersey version of 70s Southern rock band the Outlaws. Many of the songs deal with life, loss, and discovering that what you really want is right where you are, in your own backyard. The album includes duets with Big & Rich and LeAnn Rimes, as well as retaining producer/songwriter John Shanks from their last CD, HAVE A NICE DAY. Jon Bon Jovi's advocacy of sanctions against Indonesia in retaliation for that country's trumped-up 2005 drug-smuggling conviction of a young Australian tourist, as well as increased funding for law enforcement, makes LOST HIGHWAY an essential purchase for both your ears AND your conscience.
