Free Music Review: Well, It Has Its Moments....
Hit: 3 Stars

Unfortunately, one of those moments is when you hear the familiar voice-box "wow-wow" fist-pumper that has shown up on each album since "It's My Life" brought Bon Jovi back to the masses on "Crush" in 2000 - and then hear Jon, Tico, Ritchie and David join Big & Rich (argh) shouting "We Got It Goin' On". The track is, for me, the worst Bon Jovi has ever recorded, and nearly derails the entire "Lost Highway" album.

Many of the complaints I've heard about this album revolve around the band "going country." Bon Jovi has always had its New Jersey cowboy schtick - though the Southwestern tinges suited me far better than the adult contemporary country bit they've been evolving in recent times. My problem with "Lost Highway" is that it continues the pattern they've been creating since "Crush": each album is more predictable and forgettable than the last. The first listen through, I could finish most of Jon's vocal lines for him knowing the first few words. Tico's drumming, while always solid, is not the force that it once was. Ritchie shows more signs of life on this album than the last, but still seems to be missing the passion his licks once lent to each and every song (listen to "Something to Believe In" or "Dry County" and then "Lost Highway" - you'll see what I mean). So I guess, given the lack of musical originality and propensity towards repetitious lyrical clich?s that has become common over the last 4 albums, aligning the band more closely with Nashville seems only natural.

That's not to say it's all bad. Aforementioned issues aside, "Lost Highway" (the song) nearly rocks, and is instantly likable, "(You Want To Make A) Memory" is a catchy tune that quietly builds but never fully lets loose, "'Til We Ain't Strangers Anymore" will hook you with some of the best harmony vocals (provided by LeAnn Rimes) since "Never Say Goodbye", and "One Step Closer" is a laid-back, reflective open-road kind of song that goes down easy (and doesn't rise back up like the Big & Rich tune).

If you can get past the fact that there's nothing here that even remotely rocks with the conviction of Bon Jovi classics like "Keep the Faith", "Born To Be My Baby" or "Wanted Dead Or Alive" (and the obvious country leaning of the whole thing) there's some good music here, amid quite a bit of pleasant filler and one or two giant missteps. "Lost Highway" is, at best, an average album - and certainly one of the most forgettable in Bon Jovi's catalog.

Free Music Review: Jon Bon Jovi has lost the plot
Hit: 1 Stars

Back in 1984 I discovered a little single called "Runaway" by some unknown American band called "Bon Jovi". Here in Australia I believe it was actually the second single but I liked it enough to grab the debut album. I was blown away and have been a huge fan ever since, even getting backstage on the "These Days" tour. Since "Blaze of Glory" however there have been warning signs over Jon's use of acoustic guitars and the influence of country music ("Saturday Night" for example), but Richie,Dave and Tico have been able to keep things in check long enough to continue producing great music even if we have to occasionally listen to garbage like "Bitter Wine", "Diamond Ring" or most of the "This Left Feels Right" album. With this album however Jon has gone too far. Given that "Bounce" and "Have a Nice Day" were both brilliant rock albums and equal to or superior to "Faith","Jersey" or "Slippery", to come up with an album of mostly crap like this is beyond disappointing. Dave and Tico have no input at all and while Dave's personal problems led to some of the best stuff Jon's ever written on "HAND" Richie's baggage sees our two heroes wallowing in creative mud. If our duo wanted to experiment (or cash in on the unexpected success of "Who Says") they should have done it as a Jon Bon Jovi/Richie Sambora side project and not as a band project. Outside of the title track which is okay and "Memory" the rest is forgettable and the lyrics on "We Got it Going On" are the stuff a 15 year old comes up with while he's still trying to learn how to write. I wasn't going to buy this album, did anyway then wished I hadn't. You can do much better boys. Let's hope next time you do.

Free Music Review: Evolution
Hit: 4 Stars

Having been a Bon Jovi fan since Slippery, I have come to anticipate new BJ cd's. There were a few along the way that were not as strong, however, I'd say Lost Highway is a good competitor.

The first half of the CD is phenominal! You'll be singing along. The second half, was a little disappointing, but not bad over-all. I was leary of the country twang, however it fit very nicely! And since I was a fan of "Who say's you can't go home", it made sense to me taking into account it's wide success why they've chosen to explore this route. With "Who says you can't go home" being one of my all-time BJ fav's, this album provides "Lost Highway" as another to add to that list.

I'd definitely recommend this CD to BJ fans, as well as country fans. BJ fans might be worried, but it's not as "country" as you might fear. Or at least I feel it fits in with the feel of the cd so that you barely notice the subtleties at times.

Free Music Review: GREAT ALBUM
Hit: 5 Stars

Bon Jovi's " Lost Highway" album rocks! I love all the songs on this album, and this has to be one their best albums to date! I love the collaboration with LeAnn Rhimes and the other great singers contributed on this album. My favorite song on this album would have to be " One Step Closer" and " SummerTime" These songs ROCK!

Free Music Review: Bon Jovi at it's best
Hit: 5 Stars

This must be one of their best albums to date. A good combination of ballads and rock. Most enjoyable listening.
