Free Music Notes for New JerseyFree Music Review: I got it bad and it feels good. Bon Jovi rocks! Hit: 4 Stars
Lay Your Hands On Me: A long instramental intro with kind of a church feeling to it. But it's no church songs with lyrics like "
Bad Medicine: Incredible drums, fast lyrics, and doing it one more time with feeling. They got it bad and it feels good.
Born To Be My Baby: It has Bonnie and Clyde feel to it. An us against the world song. I love the opening of "1, 2, 3, 4" followed by a fast beat.
Living In Sin: A nice love ballad, the music video was deemed too inappropriate for MTV and was banned.
Blood On Blood: A high energy song about the band's wild boyhood. Jon is still just a singer in a long-haired rock 'n roll band.
Homebound Train: I never really listen to this one, so I don't really have much of an opinion.
Wild Is The Wind: Very catchy, and fun to sing along with. Easy to get stuck in your head.
Ride Cowboy Ride: Recorded in mono, this minute long acoustic song is a nice cowboy prelude to Stick to your Guns.
Stick To Your Guns: Another nice cowboy song.
I'll Be There For You: Their fourth number one hit, this love song has nice guitars, great harmonies, an unexpected key change in the end. It has some cheesy lyrics when read off a piece of paper, but when you hear them sung by Jon, it's very romantic and sentimental.
'99 In The Shade: A fun song, but not one of the best.
Love For Sale: It sounds like this song was just put on the record for the fun of it. They were just goofing around. It's a fast, funny, kinda country song. Richie and Jon's conversation at the end is also quite humorous.
Free Music Review: I got a junk for your affection... Hit: 4 Stars
Although `Slippery When Wet' was where Bon Jovi solidified their reputation as stadium demigods, `New Jersey' is the better record. I may be in the minority here but with the exception of "Wanted Dead or Alive" from the former, I like the hits from `Jersey' more. Maybe Jon was trying to channel Bruce Springsteen and maybe he wasn't (I tend to agree with the critics on this one) there was no denying the band and its frontman had the chops if not the appeal of their Garden State elder. "Bad Medicine" was another #1 and a great hair metal hit! "Born to Be My Baby" is not so much and it is an obvious "Livin' on a Prayer "II. "Lay Your Hands on Me" is a pulverizing, feet out of your seat opener and "Blood on Blood" is probably the most Springsteenesque track (cept for "Living in Sin"). Overall, a long made for the CD age record with twelve songs of varying quality though overall the team of Fairbairn, Rock and Child remake the magic of 1986. "Love for Sale" and "Ride Cowboy Ride" continue the unplugged ride that was kick started by Jon and Richie sans the rest of the boys circa 1987-88 on MTV. `New Jersey' may have not sold the amount of flapjacks that its predecessor sold, but seven million plus is no dud and Bon Jovi looked to remain the one American band who could rival the commercial onslaught of Sheffield, England's finest- Def Leppard. We were so young....one for all and all for one...did Joe Elliot rip-off Dumas as well?
Free Music Review: New Jersey Hit: 4 Stars
Written in Bon Jovi's `big hair rock' era `New Jersey' has some good tracks on it, as well as a few more dubious selections. `Bad Medicine' is probably the most well known and the track that delighted stadium fans around the world and `Lay Your Hands On Me' is in a similar crowd pleasing vein. This was when Jon on Jovi was in his cowboy influenced phase (written around the same time as his solo 'Blaze Of Glory' Soundtrack album) and that shows though clearly on tracks such as `Ride Cowboy Ride' and `Stick To Your Guns' and although these are ok, these are the weaker tracks on the album and feel like 'Blaze Of Glory' rejects! It has been said on previous reviews that this is the album Jon Bon Jovi tried to show his Springsteen roots/influence the most clearly and on tracks such as `Blood on Blood' you can see he tries to emulate Springsteen's songwriting ability and song themes, but sadly never comes close, although I enjoy this song for what it is. For easy going, fun rock music, this album is a pretty good place to go. Although Bon Jovi have produced better albums that achieve the same goal both before and since (`Slippery When Wet' and `Keep The Faith`) and I put this one on once I`ve played those first and suggest you consider doing the same.

Free Music Review: It's All How You Look At It Hit: 4 Stars
Bon Jovi was at a point in their career where they could put out anything and have it spawn at least three top ten singles. The success of "Slippery When Wet" turned them into worldwide superstars. When I listen to this album, I get the feeling that I have heard it all before. That does not make this a bad album, though. There are very few filler songs compared to some of their earlier and later albums. It just seems so calculated. Of course, if you give this to someone who is new to music, this would probably be their favorite album ever, because they have never heard it before. There are several good songs on here, especially the surprisingly heavy "Lay Your Hands On Me," (did anyone notice that Def Leppard had nearly the exact same song with "Pour Some Sugar on Me"?) which has a great riff and sounds similar to how it would in a live stadium. In fact, that's what most of the songs sound like. That's not a bad thing, but Jon goes too far sometimes, I feel nausiated when I hear the ending to the terrible "Bad Medicine" where he goes "Wait, I'm not done yet" and then they repeat the chorus again. So if you don't take this too seriuosly, you can really enjoy it, especially because it's so low-priced. But if you consider yourself a hardcore music fan, there will be very little on here for you to enjoy.
Free Music Review: The band's tribute to their native land Hit: 4 Stars
NEW JERSEY is Bon Jovi's second megahit following SLIPPERY WHEN WET(the band's first megahit) released in 1986. Two years later, this album brought big hits such as BAD MEDICINE,LAY YOUR HANDS ON ME,I'LL BE THERE FOR YOU,LIVING IN SIN and BORN TO BE MY BABY(the latter two were not recycled for the CROSSROAD compilation). RIDE COWBOY RIDE was recorded in mono. That's because the song was originally recorded on a monaural cassette recorder. All the other songs are good. NEW JERSEY is where all 5 Bon Jovi members hail from. In fact,I'm a NEW JERSEY native myself. Two years after this album was released, frontman Jon Bon Jovi(Bongiovi) recorded and released BLAZE OF GLORY for the movie "Young Guns II". That song would appear on the CROSSROAD compilation released in 1994. The group would release their next album KEEP THE FAITH in 1992,which was not a big hit like NEW JERSEY and SLIPPERY WHEN WET.
