Free Music Notes for New JerseyFree Music Review: Bon Jovi's "David Copperfield." Hit: 5 Stars
For those of you who don't know this, Charles Dickens' "David Copperfield" (1851), does not have the popularity of "Oliver Twist," "A Christmas Carol," or "A Tale of Two Cities." Nevertheless, Dickens said that "David Copperfield" was his 'favorite child' (best creation). I would not be surprised in the least if Bon Jovi said that this was his 'favorite child.' The music differs in type (some country, some medium rock, some heavy rock) and intensity throughout the record, but the flow never seems to be upset. This is one of those rare records where it sounds like the artist was writing and playing what he felt were his best efforts without worrying about how it would be received. (Personally, I feel '7800' is his absolute best.) But I really do like this record that seems to constitue Bon Jovi's purest efforts.
Free Music Review: New Jersey Rocks! Hit: 5 Stars
I have to be honest, at first I didn't think Bon Jovi could follow up their debut success with an even BETTER album, but they proved me wrong. It's obvious that the band spent a lot of time thinking about the new material that would later end up on their best album to date. The first single off the record, "Lay Your Hands On Me", (my favorite on the album) is the best arena rock song I've ever heard. It sounds like Queen was the main influence on this particular song. The second song on the album, "Bad Medicine" is pure '80s "hairband rock". In other words, it's just downright FUN. Another highlight on "New Jersey" is "Stick to Your Guns", the only real ballad on the album. It gets better every time you listen to it. "New Jersey" is definately a keeper.
Free Music Review: One of the best Hit: 5 Stars
I was a BJ fan all the way back to their first album, though I must admit 'Runaway' was not the song that hooked me but rather 'She Don't Know Me'.I followed them during the releases of their first two albums and when 'Slippery When Wet' came out and people thought they might be a one album wonder I knew better. 'New Jersey' is one of the best follow up records to a 'bust out' record ever (along with Def Leppard 'Hysteria' and pearl Jam 'Vs.'). this album showed the new Bon Jovi fans that this band had more hits in them, and cemented them into the music scene. in addition this is the best BJ album off all. 'Slippery When Wet' has a few songs that are as good or better then songs on 'New Jersey' but as a whole 'New Jersey' never lets up and is one of the best rock albums you'll hear.
Free Music Review: Bon Jovi's BEST--Bar NONE Hit: 5 Stars
When I picked up 'New Jersey' all I was hoping for was an album half as good as 'Slippery When Wet'...what I listened to was FAR better (in MY opinion, anyway). One of my all-time favorite Bon Jovi tunes is 'Wanted Dead Or Alive' and along those lines, on 'New Jersey' you can hear the clearly SUPERIOR 'Ride Cowboy Ride/Stick To Your Guns'. It's kinda like two songs back-to-back, but one song overall. 'Ride Cowboy Ride' is recorded in mono, and sounds like it was recorded about 75 years ago using primative equipment, but they obviously MEANT for it to sound that way, and HOW the record label missed out on releasing 'Stick To Your Guns' as a single is WAY BEYOND ME. Get to know Bon Jovi when they sat down and ripped out their all-around best album and you will be very glad you did.
Free Music Review: One of the Last Glorious Moment of 80s' Rock Hit: 5 Stars
Bon Jovi is one of the few 80s' rock bands that can survive commercialy even to this day. Their third and previous album SLIPPERY WHEN WET became super hit, with two #1 hits YOU GIVE LOVE A BAD NAME and LIVING ON A PRAYER. 1988 follow up NEW JERSEY became more solid and vivid than the predecessor well balanced in pop and wild appeal of the band.
LAY YOUR HANDS ON ME and BAD MEDICINE both became huge hits from the album but other tracks shine in its own right. Particularly I like fifth track BLOOD ON BLOOD and fast-paced track 99 IN THE SHADE which keep our adrenalin running.
Verdict: One of their finest efforts and one of the best late 80s rock albums.
Rating: 96 out of 100
