Free Music Notes for These DaysFree Music Review: Buy the original, not the remastered Hit: 5 Stars
This is, in my opinion, Bon Jovi's best record. However, the remastered version kills it. This is a raw rock'n'roll album with tons of acoustics, classic Fender guitar tones and throat wrenching vocal performances. The original release captured all of that beautifully - light EQ, light compression, full bottom-end, etc. The remastered version runs it through the generic cookie-cutter mastering settings that have destroyed the sonics of music in the recent decade. Here's a general tip for the music consumer - "Digitally remastered" is almost always code for "thin, brittle, bright, sparkling noise." "These Days" is no exception. A record like this is not supposed to sparkle. It's Bon Jovi's darkest offering, with songs like "Hey God," "Something To Believe In," and the title track "These Days." It is also their rawest record, an acoustical snapshot by producer Peter Collins of the passion being expressed by the band at that time. The dry vocal of "Lie To Me," the timeless, weeping harmonies of Jon and Richie in "It's Hard," - these are best experienced on the original release, where the mastering is far truer to the character of the songs, mixes and performances.
Free Music Review: The best Bon Jovi album Hit: 5 Stars
Let me start off by saying I am a huge Bon Jovi fan, and I love all of their stuff. But this album is completely underappreciated. I agree with many of the other reviewers; this album was their least mainstream, but it's really great. I was actually disapointed in Crush, because I was hoping they would continue down this route. The title track is definitely one of the best on the album, and "This Ain't a Love Song" is also great. I personally think that "As My Guitar lies bleeding in My Arms" is an answer to the Beatle's "While My Guitar Gently Weeps", and a great one at that (though my theory may be stretching it a bit). "Something for the Pain" is a great song to start your day with, and finally, "Diamond Ring" is one of my favorites -- it's pretty creepy (at least, in my opinion; I think it's sort of an obsessive anthem). Oh, and it must be mentioned that Jon has some wonderful lyrics on this -- my personal favorite is "now the neighbors dog don't bark the same anymore", or something to that effect. Kind of silly, but great.
Free Music Review: Keep The Faith is slightly better Hit: 5 Stars
Man this is by far the 2nd best Bon Jovi album after Keep The Faith then comes Slippery when wet, new jersey etc. In fact I don't even listen to the 80s albums much except for the 90s ones.
Why???? Because of the maturity of the songwriting and the structure of the songs. Listen to the lyrics of "Something to believe in". A very dark and moody song along with other ones too like "Hey God", "These Days", "As my guitar lies bleeding".
This was also the album to not feature their longtime bassist Alec John Such who left after Keep The Faith due to a rift b/w himself and JBJ. But this didn't stop the album doing platinum in the states and again topped the UK charts becoming another major hit there. Another hit, another multiplatinum hit, Bon Jovi sails on, unscarred by the trends and alternative bands that were killing off the glam bands.
This is an album for those that despised glam bands as this album tackled on many issues regarding beliefs, life and issues.
Free Music Review: Perfect Breakup Album Hit: 5 Stars
Throughout their career, Bon Jovi have been known for their optimistic brand of hard rock. "These Days" is a complete turn in the opposite direction, and is one of the most depressing albums I've ever heard. It is also one of the best. This album got me through the worst breakup I've ever gone through. "It's Hard Letting You Go" is the most heartbreaking song the band has ever written, while "Hey God" is quite possibly the angriest. Most songs are sad, lonely ballads which I can completely relate to. This is Bon jovi's deepest, most thought-provoking album, despite what others may say, and it is without a doubt my favorite. If you're going through a breakup, I would recommend listening to this album and following it up with a few classics from "Cross Road" like "You Give Love A Bad Name." This album will get you through the tough times, and at the same time, give you a new perspective on life, love, and happiness.
Free Music Review: Bon Jovi is so awesome Hit: 5 Stars
I'd like to say I'm the biggest Bon Jovi fan in the world... but I don't spend hundreds of dollars on rare Bon Jovi items so.... I own just about all of their American releases. This is my favorite. Why? "My Guitar Lies Bleeding in My Arms", that's why. Bon Jovi hit some emotional spots here. Not songs about girls, not songs about being happy. Songs about depression, loss, survival, and searching for a meaning. This album ranges many styles, such as stuff you'd expect to hear in a bar "Hearts Breaking Even", southern rock "Something for the Pain", and heavy metal "My Guitar Lies Bleeding in My Arms". I would spend all day rambling about how great this album is, but then you wouldn't have time to go buy it. If you can get the limited edition of it, I recommend it. "Bitter Wine" is a great bonus track.Richie Sambora is so underrated.... but then again, who's heard of Trevor Rabin?
