Free Music Review: Love that Boney!!!
Hit: 5 Stars

Since the release of "Ride", I've been waiting on the new Boney set. He just can't get new music out fast enough for me. This cd is just the latest cd in great Boney music. The whole cd is AWESOME! I think any true Boney follower would agree that Boney means business when it comes to his music and he doesn't disappoint on "Pure". A cd your contemporary jazz collection MUST have!!

Free Music Review: WOW
Hit: 5 Stars

all i can say is wow what a record. His ninth could be his best one yet.I have been a fan of his for a while and this is his smoothest album yet. i was at a concert of his a month or so back and he just blew me away. i am truly empressed with this album and in my thinking he should at the very least be nominated again for another grammy if not win one! this is "Pure" smoothjazz and R&B at its best

Free Music Review: This is PURE good music
Hit: 5 Stars

I love this CD! Boney James is a connoisseur of smooth jazz. Here are the tracks I especially think he did an excellent job with:

Pure
Better With Time
2:01am
Appreciate
Thinkin' 'Bout Me

These are some of my favorite tracks, but the entire CD is good. The title track is GREAT!!! I also love the artists he collaborated with...Bilal, Questlove, etc. did an excellent job! I play this CD in its entirety, and that's becoming a rare find. Highly recommend this CD for any and all smooth jazz lovers. It's a sultry album!

Free Music Review: PURE (URBAN RADIO) should be the title of Boney's
Hit: 5 Stars

new CD-Boney kicked producer Paul Brown to the gutter and went over the edge straight into R&B with jazz influences. The man just doesn't care anymore and as result saves the 2004 Summer music doldrums. No covers here-Pure the opening cut, perfectly interprets where he wants to go with this effort and takes the listener with him. Getting Better... is actually the current single and is probably the weakest track but clearly aimed at the masses. 2:01 AM sounds exactly like it's title and should probably be like the "hidden track" on the cd. Fortunately like an Oreo cookie Boney put the good stuff in the middle-Stone Groove with Joe Sample and in particular, Fortunate with Debi Nova (this originally was a Jon B collabo I understand) is far superior to what's currently passing as R&B.
This leads us to an AWB-like guitar scratching perhaps Boney's "Mr. Magic"...Here She Comes-at this point you're trying to find a concert venue near you. Everything's going fine then Dwele?! and Break of Dawn comes on and you're on the cell trying to make plans with your lady. After you play Break 3 or 4 times then IT'S ON cutting the groove loose (with a nice guitar solo). Thinking About Me opens with a salute to Johnny Guitar Watson and I predict will be the surprise winning radio track. You Don't Have to Go Home isn't what you think it is...you think it's a jammm-but it's actually Boney's conversion to "Brother Cannonball" Boney and I guarantee concert venues will have to purchase additional insurance if he plays this-it WILL tear the house down.

Free Music Review: Pure Boney......
Hit: 5 Stars

As someone who owns everything Boney James has ever done, I honestly have to say that this album is one of his best to date. I really don't know how he does it, but it seems as if each time he releases an album, he gets better and better.

'Pure' is his truest piece to date. He not only cowrote all of the songs, but this time around he also produced the album, which is a first for him. Even though he seemed to take more risks and be more adventurous on this outing, he remained true to his r&b roots.

I think this album has more of a sense of maturity about it, which probably is the result of what he's been through the last three years (his brother passed away).

Its a beautiful thing when one can release their ninth album, and still maintain that 'thing' that their fans love about them. In his case, he seems to have nurtured 'it,' and allowed 'it' to thrive.

After all these years, it still boggles my mind how smoothly Boney can play a tenor saxophone. Now, I have never played a wind instrument, but it seems logical to me that playing a soprano sax would be far easier than a tenor. Boney, however, seems almost to make his tenor flutter, like the breeze in late summer, early fall. He makes it seem effortless. I think a good example of this phenomenon is the last track from this album: 'You Don't Have To Go Home.'

His music plays with, toys with the emotions of its listeners with every single, perfectly executed note. It can mellow just as easily as it can excite.

Boney James' music is truly a gift, and I would recommend this album (in addition to his previous works) to anyone. There are only two things lacking from his roster; a greatest hits recording, and a live recording.
