Free Music Review: Merry Christmas, Baby!
Hit: 5 Stars

This is my favorite Christmas Album and I can't wait to break it out again this year. If you like James Brown's Funky Christmas then you will like this. Enjoy!

Free Music Review: GREAT CD!
Hit: 5 Stars

This CD is to my surprise, very very good! Of course, Bootsy is his usual eccentric self, but the music and lyrics are very entertaining.

Free Music Review: Don't miss the MUSIC here!
Hit: 4 Stars

I'm a big Bootsy fan from way back, but when I picked this up I expected it to be sort of a goofy novelty. But the music on here is really incredible. Bootsy knows when to fill out the arrangements with bizarre sounds and textures, without making it feel cluttered. It just adds to the fonk. There are some sweet, swangin' horn charts on most the tracks. And the way that Bootsy and co. have rearranged the melody and vocal lines on "Santa Claus is Coming to Town" is nothing short of magnificent. Bootsy's not known as a jazz man, but he accomplishes here what any jazz fan would expect in a Christmas album: a fresh and imaginative reworking of the material. By taking standard songs that have been done and redone to death, and fonking around with them, he reveals a musicality that most people who think of him as kind of a clown never imagined he had. Okay, though, those who like good ol' rump-shakin' fonk with that slow, lumbering P-Funk tempo are still in for a treat, even if they ignore all the cool stuff going on over the groove (and, happily, most of the drum tracks are live rather than programmed, with Bootsy, Cash Waddy, Melvin Parker, and other funky drummers pumping the skins). Mr. Collins, my hat's off to you. This is as good a record as you've ever done.
