If you like the classic Joni Mitchell - this will be a surprise. She comes on as a throaty jazz/blues singer. It is not contrived - she has assumed and become one with this style.
She sings some of her classic - A Case of You - with a new, slower, and very satisfying version.
The orchestra and recording quality are first rate.
Highly recommended.

It isn't possible for me to listen this version of Both Sides Now without being emotionally moved. The rest of this cd is icing on the cake.
Definitely not everyone, not even a lot of hardcore Joni Mitchell fans - I wouldn't put myself in that camp - this collection of jazz standards and one remarkable remake of one of her early classics is one fantastic package.

Upon sampling this cd, I was elated that Joni had recorded such established jazz classics with an accomplished and stylized rendering. After several intent listenings, I've changed my mind: Age has crept into her voice, thinning its power, even if for the sake of the material. Still, on certain numbers I feel it detracts rather than enhances; her unique sound is sacrificed. There is a sorry uniformity to her approach, and while I feel the entire work is good, it seems lacklustre despite obvious effort on Ms. Mitchell's part.
