Free Music Notes for Great Burrito Extortion CaseFree Music Review: Their Best Hit: 5 Stars
I loved "Drunk Enough to Dance" but I was not crazy about "The Hangover You Don't Deserve." This new CD is better because the song quality is better, so is the production. There are a few songs here that are better than "1985" and "Punk Rock 101," their two best songs to date. The effort and emotion the band put into this is exceptional, and yet they maintain their happy, humorous edge. They have never sounded better, and they sound like they are having fun. What's more, the album expands the formula, rocking out MUCH more, approaching real punk on the song "Friends Like You" and slowing down a bit for the outstanding ballad "When We Die." There are a few songs in the middle of the CD which are annoying and don't need to be there, but there are about 5 potential hit singles here - check out the opening track's guitar, melody, and harmony...WOW. These guys have made their masterpiece after many years of hard work. Any fan of this genre who can't appreciate this CD, they are just plain stupid. Bowling for Soup bowled close to a "300" on this one.
Free Music Review: What others aren't say about Bowling for Soup Hit: 5 Stars
Are Bowling for Soup funny? Yes. Are their songs dripping with anthemic hooks? Yes. Are they "laugh out loud hilarious". Undoubtably. Are they punk-pop? Possibly. Are they power pop? Most definitely!
What nobody else here is saying is that while they are all of the above, they are one of the most lyrically "heavy" bands I have heard in a long time. "Much More Beautiful Person", "When We Die", "99 Biker Friends" all deal with very sensitive issues that are not funny. This is where these guys succeed in a big way. When you tackle problems like social and spousal abuse in a way that really makes you not only laugh but cry the songwriter has accomplished something very rare.
Listen to this release and laugh, but also listen to it and let it tug at your heartstrings a little bit and you'll come away from it with perhaps more than what was originally intended.
Free Music Review: The Best So Far Hit: 5 Stars
I have listened to just about everything Bowling For Soup has put out and this album is so far the best... Before I bought my ipod, I actually wore out 3 copies of the CD. (Yes you can wear them out....) I just bought copy #4 to load on my iphone. The lyrics, are true yet funny without being too cynical... some of songs are so true to life, not fairy tale romance music, but the real crap that goes on in relationships. I enjoy the music just as much as the lyrics and I disagree about the song "I'm Gay." If you've ever seen BFS play it live, you'd never get tired of it... my only wish: a rerelease of SOHO that most of us could get our hands on and EMILY on itunes video along with some other BFS videos. Free Music Review: It's BFS...of course it's amazing! Hit: 5 Stars
As their 9th studio release BFS couldn't have hoped for more out of an album. There are so many songs that could be radio releases on this new album that I don't know how they decided to choose High School Never Ends as a starter. Buy this album, buy this album, buy this album. I can't say enough good things about BFS both as a band and as guys...they're completely freakin amazing.
Songs to listen to over and over on this CD: High School Never Ends ,Why Don't I Miss You, Much More Beautiful Person, WHEN WE DIE (mainstream radio Feb. 5th), Lovesick Stomach Ache.
Free Music Review: Another great BFS album Hit: 5 Stars
I have been a fan of Bowling for Soup for several years now, although I wasn't too big on their last album of movie songs. The boys have outdone themselves on this one though. The songs are in the same vein as on "A Hangover You Don't Deserve" and "Drunk Enough To Dance." Just about every song on this album is great! The humor is there as always (especially on songs like "High School Never Ends," "99 Bikers" and "I'm Gay") as are the catchy riffs and choruses. I highly recommend this album!
