Free Music Notes for Box Car RacerFree Music Review: Boxcar Rocks! Hit: 5 Stars
This album doesn't deserve 5 stars, but at least four 1/2, if only for the reason that My First Punk Song is an insult to the rest of the album. That said, let's move on.If you buy this, expect the music to sound very similar to blink-182. Although the songs go a little deeper and heavier, it stears more towards "Stay Together for the Kids" and "Adam's Song," which isn't a bad thing, just not too different from anything else Tom DeLonge's written. Lyrically, the differences are set. Where blink focuses on relationships, Boxcar focuses on loss, regret and a feelings of sorrow and remorse. Sure, the relationship songs are there ("And I," "There Is") but those too go deeper than anything blink has done. Don't get me wrong, I love blink. But I think that working with Travis instead of Mark is going to make the songs deeper. Since Travis is the more serious one of the group, he brings a lot more meaning into the lyrics, which began to be evident with the last blink album. It will be interesting to see how the next blink album is. Lastly, Travis, who is already an amazing drummer, brings his talent into greater form on the Boxcar album. Without Travis, the album wouldn't be the same; it would suffer without. This is a great album, well worth the time if you're a blink fan, or just a fan of good music.
Free Music Review: One of the best albums I've heard... Hit: 5 Stars
For starters, I'm a pretty big blink fan, though I've been disapointed with there recent works, as they are straying further into the pop influence. So when I popped Boxcar racer into my CD player, I was surprised that a band comprised of two Blink memebers could sound so mature. There single, I Feel So, expresses a wide range of emotions carried through incredible sounds and rifts. Travis's ability with the drums carries the album on a rollercoaster ride of soft rhythm and hard hitting. If you think this is a Blink album in disguise, think again. The tracks on the CD sound very mature (with the exception of "My First Punk Song", but what would you expect from the title :P), and although the majority deal with relationships and heatbreak, you won't hear the kind of poppy nonsense that Blink and other "punk" bands are so accoustomed to. Give this CD a chance. It offers enough variety that any person could pick out quite a few songs they like. Most noteable achievement of the album: "Letters to God"--->This song alone could have easily earned my recommendation. It carries so much emotion, and at first sounds like just an acoustic song, but at its climax explodes into 45 seconds of unadulterated hard rock that continues to carry the strong emotions that Tom DeLonge is trying to convey. Simply amazing!
Free Music Review: Good Side Project (I use the term loosely) Hit: 5 Stars
This is a good side project by Tom and Travis. I use the term side project loosely because it sounds like the next Blink 182 cd. Blink sounded like they were heading slowly for a more hard and dark song like Stay Together For The Kids, and that's what this CD is. The only two songs that really don't sound Blinkish too me are My First Punk Song and The End With You. This isn't a bad thing though. Blink 182 has proved their tried and true pop-punk style to please the masses, and I'm sure this one will too. At first I didn't like the album too much, but it's really grown on me. It was nice hearing a virtually entire seriously album with a Blink 182 sound. I also liked hearing more slow and accoustic songs, like What Went Wrong (which I think is a GREAT Blink 182 song). This album does have musical merit, and shows some more mature growth (mentally and musically) from Blink, but don't expect something too different. It was nice hearing different chords (Blink has a very patented chord progression of 1,5,6,4 that can be found in just about every one of their songs, which is why they all kinda sound alike). I thought that the acoustic start of Letters to God and the distorted and harmonic explosion in the end was very cool. Don't analyze it too much though though, just enjoy it, and let it tide you over until the next Blink 182 album arrives.

Free Music Review: Emotional Music Hit: 5 Stars
Typically, I don't write reviews, but I felt the need on this album. First off, it is not Blink182, although the musical influences are certainly there. From the way it sounds to me after listening to the whole album several times over, this is something Tom Delonge needed to do. The songs for Blink182 may be fun, but they hardly have the emotion that a songwriter may crave at times. Tom concentrated on the songwriting for this album and put his emotion into it. When you here him live with Blink, he sometimes sounds horrible just because he's not really trying. The songs don't require the emotion. If you ever get to hear Boxcar Racer live though, you should definitely go. He puts his energy into his lyrics and the music surrounding them is great. There's so much energy that you can swear he's been there, that he's experienced what he's singing about. Like I said, I think he needed this because there is no real substance to Blink182 and he needed another outlet. Oh yeah, Travis and the drums are a dominant factor in the album. You hear them over the other music most of the time. While Boxcar is still just a side project, I would like to see it become full time. Just get the cd. Maybe you'll see what I mean, maybe you won't.
