Free Music Notes for Boys Like Girls

Free Music Review: Album of the year
Hit: 5 Stars

While Boys Like Girls isnt as unique as it can be as far as emo bands are concerned, this album can very well be the album of the year (2008). I've been on the search for a great emo band for years ever since Something Corporate stopped producing more music and this album answered my prayer. Sorry Dashboard Confessional - I like your album but it just doesnt seem to fill the void I had.

Free Music Review: Great Album
Hit: 5 Stars

Boys Like Girls is a great band and this album makes that very evident.
Great buy.

Free Music Review: Buy the Single
Hit: 2 Stars

The first song from the self-titled album, Boys Like Girls, is the only one repeated listening has found worth listening too at all. Mainly only because it is the only one I can tell apart from the others. If you're looking for good background noise, this fits the requirements; if you're looking for good listening, buy the single if you must have it. "The Great Escape" isn't worth trapping yourself into the full CD.

Free Music Review: Refreshing New Group
Hit: 5 Stars

While watching NFL Total Access they played part of "The Great Escape" liked it, I went to Amazon heard samples of all the songs and bought the album. It just arrived and immediately played it. Great music, it is very refreshing to see new groups and especially talented ones. This reminds me of when "Cold Play" began. All the songs in this CD are great full of life and good messages. I highly recommended to ALL!!!

Free Music Review: 3-1/2 stars -- Decent, but needs a greater escape from "the usual"
Hit: 3 Stars

Emo is one of those sub-genres that seems to have taken over mainstream radio over the past two years or so, and there are so many bands like that that a lot of times there are those who take a while to get a break. Such is the case with the band Boys Like Girls, whose self-titled album was released last summer but didn't really get any attention until "The Great Escape" started making waves THIS year. I listened to their album, and it isn't bad, but...

Boys Like Girls is probably one of the most uncreative names for a band (although the line "Will you find another boy to go kiss and tell/'Cause you know I never will" from "Five Minutes to Midnight" might make some wonder if they're crossing over), but the thing about them is, well, it's basically the same situation as a band like Cartel: they really don't do anything that distances themselves from any other emo band out there. That, and there a few times when things get a little corny, like "Dance Hall Drug" and especially "Thunder". The second acoustic version of "Hero/Heroine" is also unnecessary.

I also think that maybe the breakup songs shouldn't be all bundled together toward the end of the album (with only the aforementioned "Dance Hall Drug" able to break things up). Boys Like Girls' album is one of those albums that is a must have only if you like anything emo; otherwise, borrow it first.
