Free Music Notes for Motown A Journey Through Hitsville USAFree Music Review: Still vibin' Hit: 3 Stars
This is a nice album for fans who been missing their vibe! Well, they still have those great vocals but... we need new material, new inspiration not just covers all the time because the potential is still a threat!
The only song I really like on this album is "Easy" originally performed by Lionel Richie.
Ever since hip-hop ruled the charts, all the R&B artists were either forced to retire (Tevin Campbell), or get dirty to survive (R Kelly) and hence, supporting Boyz II Men is like protecting good music from "ghetto style" pollution...
However, I think The boyz' magic just ended on the album MikeShawnNateWanya album when they wanted to prove to the world that they could still shine without Jimmy Jam & Terry and the legendary Babyface...
These guys need to adapt their production choices to market needs, they should work with Stewart, Ne-Yo, Stargate, Salaam, Babyface or even David Foster (the force behind Michael Bublé)!
Free Music Review: Very good Hit: 3 Stars
This was a good album overall. Its good to hear another persons take on Motown. As another reviewer touched on, they truly miss Mike McCrary. He was the bottom. I'd love to have heard his bass in it all. Nate, Wan and Shawn always turn in great timelss performances. I just wish they still had their Mike. Mike you are truly missed...
Free Music Review: It's OK Hit: 3 Stars
My nephew gave me this for Christmas. I love Boyz II Men but I am not a huge fan of Motown. I can take it or leave it. I think I gave it a fair chance. I just wasn't impressed. The vocals were true to Boyz II Men but the arrangements were just same ol' same. I just was not impressed.
Free Music Review: Great Vocals Ruined By Terrible Production Hit: 2 Stars
I had started a very long review of this album and was almost done but in a weird twist of fate, my internet crashed, So here is the bottom line. This could of been an Excellent Album. The problem is that Boyz II Men's excellent vocals were marred by the washed out, easy-listening type over soft production of the music. The studio musicans were either in thier 70's or the producer (Randy Jackson) was out of his rocker on this one. I am a huge Boyz II Men fan and support them 100% however, before you rate this review unhelpful, do your self a favor and sample it before you buy.
Even the original songs had tons more depth and emotion connected to them which these tracks are lacking; but again, only due to the poor sound production. It's not the sound "Quality" that is bad, but how softly and the over-conserative way it was produced. Having said this, the only stand out tracks for me are WAR and the re-made version of End of the Road which was produced by Brian McNight and also featured him. Intead of taking this cd back, I am giving it away. Very Very Disapointed. If you are a music fan, you will understand my review after you give it a listen.
Free Music Review: So disappointed... Hit: 2 Stars
Its not the Boyz fault really. They have beautiful voices, harmonies, and ideas. They just get bad advice. This album is not good. The songs are timeless and the thought of them doing some of my favorite motown jams was a no brainer buy. Then i listened to it and immediately thought.....I cant believe this is as bad as it is. Its not their fault at all, they still bring the vocals as always, sadly minus the bass. Its the production by Yo Dawg Randy Jackson that makes this cd near blasphemous towards the little house from Detroit. The production sounds extremely cheesy and dated. This would have been fine if they dounded dated as in when Motown was popular but it sounds like an 80's version of Motown. Just cheesy and not what motown was about back in its heyday. The accapella songs are very nice and a few choice cuts on here like Got to Be There and Mercy Mercy Me hit some of the right notes, but overall this CD sounds like a soccer moms version of Motown. Might as well get Michael Mcdonald instead of this. Since he at least did this already.
