Free Music Review: Another outstanding showing by Boyz II Men

When I first learned that the Boyz would be making an album of cover songs... about a year ago... I was scared. I thought the idea was awful, I didn't want to hear old songs, I wanted to hear Boyz II Men songs! Well, the album came out and I bought it on the first day and after about 10 play throughs in 3 weeks, I'm ready to give it a review.
The album begins with Let It Whip which is a great listen. Whenever it comes on I can't help but start singing along to the chorus. Let's Stay Together follows and is a solid piece, though I prefer the Al Green version. The third song sours the cd as it features a rapper who just doesn't belong with the guys. The rest of the song is great but it can't climb back up from her flaws. Cutie Pie is OK but I'm not a fan of funk so I usually pass it by. Close the Door is the last song in this grind of mediocricy started by What You Won't Do For Love. After it, For The Love Of You starts a chain of quality songs that lasts through to the rest of the cd. The album really reaches its highlight from song 7 on. I've loved Sara Smile for ever and ate up After 7's rendition and equally enjoyed Boyz II Men's version. Human Nature is a great remake of Michael Jackson's material though I find it gets to dragging near the end. Time Will Reveal is beautiful, a great rendition of El Debarge's song. The lyrics and voices just work wonders. I Miss You is my favorite song on the cd. It just seems like it was made for the guys and I must listen to it every time I load up a track list. It's got such a sad message but it's an amazing piece. You Make Me Feel Brand New is another great song and a nice way to close the cd.
While the cd is not a five (more like a 4.5), it's a lot closer to a 5 than a 4 so I placed it accordingly. The songs were great before and the Boyz do nothing but improve upon them. A+ effort and I look forward to an original work by them.
