Free Music Notes for Boz ScaggsFree Music Review: Somebody Loan me a Dime, best investment you'll ever make Hit: 5 StarsSit down, turn this up way too loud, and BE 18 again. Drink cheap beer, wear those sweaty oldstyle headphones and cut class so you can listen to 'Loan me a Dime' again and again. Not to be dismissed is the version of Jimmy Rogers 'Waiting for a train', it shows that Boz can do blue yodel when he has to. I used to drive 75 miles to listen to my buddies vinyl copy (Hard to find it way back when) It's a tribute to friendship that I didn't just knock him out and steal it. I won't let it slip by me again, I'm getting a couple of 'em.
Free Music Review: Buy two but hide one to combat hopelessness. Hit: 5 StarsI've only bought this album three times but the first time was a-way back in the hinterlands of my youth, 25 years ago. A record store in Manchester NH was selling cutouts and I was buying every day. A couple of them were Boz Scaggs albums. This, I'm afraid, is an album of perfection. After I bought it I tried to buy everything that was ever recorded at Muscle Shoals Alabama. That studio didn't produce anything but GEMS! Duane "died too facking young" Allman was the studio slide guitarist there, and he is quite golden on this album. But the whole band of studio musicians at Muscle Shoals made every artist who stopped by a part of their musical magic. Of course I can't think straight, but I know Bobby Womack recorded there and even that numby californian, Herbie Mann, recorded his best album, or at least his most listenable. "Somebody Loan Me a Dime" is one of the many reasons for my slight deafness since I listened to it at an unreasonable volume(over & over & over) for far longer than one could sensibly recommend. That song is the familiar hit, but this recording is only polished gems. "Finding Her There(?)" is so romantic you might just say something nice to someone before you're able to stop yourself.
Free Music Review: All time great allbum. Hit: 5 StarsThis has been one of my favorite albums since I first bought it in the early '70's and recommend it highly. But why should you believe this Dead Head? ? If the music that touches your soul is good old San Francisco sounds lots of horn and slide guitar (Daune Allman) then this is a good buy. Enjoy. If memory serves me, this was voted the album most folks wanted to take with them if they were stranded on a deserted island, when ask by a Bay Area radio station. (KSAN radio.)
Free Music Review: superb debut solo album that still shines after 30 years. Hit: 5 StarsBoz showed his burgeoning song-writing prowess on this one, mixing his blues and folk background with the soulful vocals that would become a San Francisco landmark. One of the best of his catalogue that every fan must have.
